  • Share your portfolio with faculty, students and

Role of Presenter
  • Provide a detailed description of at least one
    project
  • Present the project in terms of how it relates to
    occupational therapy
  • Explain the theory selected for the project and
    how it guided development and implementation
  • Discuss the outcome of the project in
    relationship to theory
  • Describe how the project reflects the role,
    contributions, values, ethics of occupational
    therapy

Presentation Format
  • All presentations must use power point
  • If photos are used, must obtain permission from
    the subject if the subject can be identified
  • Audio and videotape,demonstration and handouts
    can be used to augment the presentation

Role of the Advisor
  • Determines when the written portfolio is complete
    and is ready for oral presentation
  • Advises on which projects to present
  • Provides oversight on content
  • Advisor must approve the content before the
    presentation
  • Grades the oral presentation
  • Both presenter and moderator

Role of the Moderator
  • Prior to the presentation
  • Assist the presenter to ensure a superior
    presentation
  • Review the power point presentation and provide
    feedback prior to delivery
  • Advises presenter regarding presentation style
  • Prepare two insightful questions to ask the
    presenter

The Moderator
  • On the day
  • Assist the speaker in set up
  • Ensure that the speaker has everything need to
    provide the presentation
  • Pass out any handouts
  • Convene the presentation
  • Start the presentation on time
  • Welcome the audience, acknowledge guests and
    introduce advisor

  • Provide a formal introduction of the speaker
  • Name
  • Educational preparation
  • Honor or recognitions received at UAB
  • Area of interest in OT
  • Career plans following graduation
  • Provide a brief overview of the work completed by
    the presenter in preparation of the portfolio

The Moderator
  • Monitor the length of the presentation
  • Speaker must complete within 30 minutes
  • Monitor time and discretely alert speaker
  • Conduct the question and answer session
  • Thank speaker for presentation and ask audience
    for questions
  • If no questions are forthcoming stimulate
    conversation by asking a question
  • Must have 2 prepared questions
  • Conclude Q A at 10 minutes to the hour
  • Thank the audience for attending

Selection of the Moderator
  • Students responsibility for securing a moderator
    by asking a classmate to serve in that capacity
  • Each student serves as the moderator for one
    other student
  • Must be a student who is not involved in any of
    the presenters projects
  • Must be selected before the presentation can be
    scheduled.

Presentation Length
  • Moderator introduces speaker (10 minutes)
  • Presentation (25-30 minutes)
  • Moderator opens floor for questions (10 min)
  • Moderator concludes presentation and dismisses
    audience
  • Should be completed by quarter to the hour

Role of the Convener
  • One person from second year class is selected to
    convene the portfolio session for a specific
    date.
  • Responsibilities
  • Welcomes the audience to the session
  • Introduces the session
  • Concludes the session after the last presentation
    is completed.
  • Several conveners can share this role as long as
    each date is covered. Provide the list of
    conveners to Julia.

Scheduling the Oral Presentation
  • Must be given go-ahead by advisor
  • Scheduled with Julia on first come, first served
    basis
  • You snooze you lose
  • Check with advisor to make sure he/she is
    available on the date you want
  • Must be scheduled within the specified time frame

Announcing the Presentation
  • Post flyers in RMSB, LRC, Webb
  • Title, speaker, date, time, location
  • May be posted ONLY on bulletin boards
  • Do NOT tape to doors, windows, cabinets
  • Remove all posters with 24hrs of completing the
    presentation

  • Comprehensive review of project (s)
  • Present the project in terms of how it relates to
    occupational therapy
  • Explain the theory selected for the project and
    how it guided development and implementation
  • Discuss the outcome of the project in
    relationship to theory
  • Describe how the project reflects the role and
    contributions of occupational therapy
  • Present materials in organized manner

Presenter Grading Criteria
  • Use a professional communication style
  • Use formal professional language
  • Use professional comportment
  • Demonstrate eye contact
  • Speak slowly in clear audible voice
  • Summarize slides dont read
  • Present in time allotted

  • Respond to comments and questions in a thoughtful
    manner
  • Answer questions directly and concisely
  • Respond to feedback in a positive way
  • Use media appropriately and skillfully
  • Accurate grammar and spelling on PPP
  • Slides are easy to read
  • Shows command of the PPP process

Moderator Grading Criteria
  • Convene presentation in a professional manner
  • Start on time
  • Maintain professional comportment
  • Dress professionally
  • Monitor length of presentation and alert speaker
    if exceeding
  • Conduct the QA in a professional manner
  • Ask audience for questions
  • Stimulate conversation by asking questions
  • Circulate and collect evaluation forms

Grading of the Complete Portfolio
  • Completed according to guidelines
  • Written Portfolio 50
  • Oral Presentation 30
  • Moderator 20

Attendance at Portfolio
  • Both first and second year students are required
    to attend portfolio presentations
  • Each student must attend a minimum of 4 sessions

  • A session consists of three consecutive portfolio
    presentations
  • Attendance list is developed, implemented and
    maintained by your class
  • Must designate someone to be in charge of this
  • Second year students also have these requirements

Evaluation of the Session
  • Each student attending a session must complete
    and turn in an evaluation form
  • If the form is not completed-you will not receive
    credit for attending the presentation
  • This will be reflected in your grade for
    portfolio
