2Hyperlinks in MS Word
- You may create hyperlinks in your syllabus word
file. - Highlight the text, click hyperlink icon
- Type the URL in the address box. Click OK.
- Email link, instead of URL, you need to type
mailtoemail address in Address box.
3Image in MS Word
- Clipart
- Go to Insert, select Picture, Clipart. Type a
keyword in the search window. Click Search
button. Click an image, resize it. - Image from a disk/folder.
- Insert, Picture, From File.
- Locate the file.
4Convert to Web Page, Web Option Set Up
- Go to File, select save as web page.
- You must set up your Word Web Options to ensure
that the .html file you convert to is
compatible with Internet Explorer and Netscape
and the image is stored in the same folder as the
Word file. - Go to Tools and select Web Options.
- In General Tab
- Select
- Uncheck
- Click OK button
5Web Option Set Up for a Word File with an Image
- When Word file uses an image, it is suggested
that you save the image in the same folder with
the word file. To ensure this, you need to - Click File tab.
- Uncheck organize supporting file in a folder.
- Then you click OK for the Web Option window.
- Give a title for the file.
- Give a short name for the HTML file (no space or
special characters such as /.,). - In addition to the HTML file converted, you need
to upload all image files generated by MS Word. - When you have 1 image, there will be 2 image
files generated by using save as web page
command in Word. You need to upload all these 2
files. - Content module
- You only need to add the syllabus HTML file to
the content module. The image will automatically
show in the syllabus file.
6Files in Contents Module
- In Contents module, you can add various types of
files such as a MS Word file, an MS Excel file, a
MS PowerPoint file, an image file .jpg or
.gif, a video or an audio file. But when you
add these files, your students must have the
corresponding application to open the file. - Before you add any files to the Content module,
you must upload them to WebCT either in My-Files
folder or a subfolder you created within My-Files
folder. - When you add any of these files, you need to
change the file heading in the Contents module.
7Upload and Attach a PowerPoint File
- You may upload and attach a PowerPoint file (e.g.
webct.ppt). - Select Manage Files on the Control Panel.
- Click Go when Upload a file is checked.
- Click Browse button. Locate the PowerPoint
file folder. Double-click the file. Click
Upload button. - Wait for a few seconds if the file is large. The
file will be listed in My-Files folder.
8Attach the PowerPoint File
- Click Course Contents module on the navigation
bar. - Click Designer Options.
- Check Add file. Click Go.
- Check Show all files in the My-Files folders in
Manage Files. - Select the Webct.ppt file.
- Click Add button at the bottom.
9Edit Title
- The PowerPoint file is named Untitled. You need
to change the title. - Drag the scroll bar down till you see Edit menu.
- Check Edit Title. Click Go button. Type the
new title. Click Update button. - Click Update Student View link at the upper right
corner to update the student view.
10Update Student View
- You must update student view in order to let your
student view the Excel file you just added. - Click View Designer Map. Click Update Student
View.
11View or Save the PowerPoint File
- Check View radio button at the top of the screen.
- Click the PowerPiont file link. Check Open the
file from its current location. Click OK. - Your student must have a PowerPoint viewer or
Powerpoint application in his computer to open
the powerpoint file. - If your students dont have MS PowerPoint, you
may direct them to download a PowerPoint viewer
from http//www.microsoft.com. Do a search for
the PowerPoint Viewer. - If your student selects save the file to the
disk. He can save it to his computer for later
use.
12Attach an Image, Word, or Excel File
- Same steps as attaching a PowerPoint file.
- Upload the file.
- Add the file to the Content Module.
- Edit Titles.
- Update Student View.
13Reorganize Icons in the Home Page
- When you have added many modules to the Home
Page, you may want to re-group them. - You use an Organizer page to group modules/icons.
- Practice
- Create an organizer page named Communications
with the following modules - Discussion, WebCT Mail, Chat
- Steps
- Add an organizer page named Communications. Move
the Discussion, WebCT Mail, and Chat modules to
the Communications. - Reorder the modules on the Navigation Bar.
14Organizer Page Communications
- Go to Add Page or Tool.
- Select Organizer Page.
15Set Up the Organizer Page
- Type Communications in the title box.
- Check both On the Navigation Bar and On the
Organizer with HomePage selected. - Click Add button.
16Move a Module to the Organizer Page
- Click Return to Homepage. Or click Homepage on
the navigation bar. - Then check Designer Options.
- You need to move one module at a time.
- Check the Discussion module. Drag the scroll bar
down. - Check Move to another pages. Click Go button.
- Select Communications.
- Click Move button.
17Change the Communications Icon
- Since the Communications use the Default icon,
the same as Resources s icon, you may need to
change the icon. - Check Communications in the Designer Options of
the Homepage. - Check Edit Link, click Go button.
- In the new window, click Browse button.
- In the WebCT file window.
- Drag the scroll bar down. Click WebCT-Files
folder if there are no other folders listed
underneath. - Click Icons folder. Click WebCT Photos
folder. You will see a list of files listed
underneath. - Select a file to preview until you find an icon
to be used (Communication_Tools.gif). - Click Pick button.
- Click Update button in the Edit Link window.
18Reorder, Delete, or Rename a Module Icon
- When you reorder, delete, or rename a module
icon, you need to do it in two places - Home Page/Organizer page, check Designer
Options - Course Menu, click Change Settings, click Go
button underneath Edit Course Menu.
19Move the Communications from Home Page
- From the Home Page, check Designer Options.
- Check the Communication module. Drag the vertical
scroll bar down. - Check Move Backward and click Go button.
- Drag the scroll bar down and click Go again.
- Repeat the same steps a few times till the
Communications module is in the right place.
20Rename a Module
- You may want to rename the Calendar as
Announcement in Home Page. - In the Designer Options of the Home Page
- Check the module that you want to rename.
- Check Edit Link and click Go button.
- Type the new name.
- Click Update button.
- Rename a module icon in an organizer page with
the same way.
21Module Link on the Navigation Bar
- From the Home Page, although you have moved
Communications to a place where you want it to
be, the order of modules on the Navigation Bar
does not correspondingly change. - You need to reorder it from the Navigation Bar
separately. - Click Change Settings on the Control Panel.
- Click Go button under Edit Course Menu.
22Move a Module Link Up/Down
- Up-Check the radio button of Communications.
Check Move Line up by, select 4. Click Go. - Down-check a module and select Move Link Down by
certain number.
23Indent Modules
- You would like to indent three modules under
Communications. - Check Discussions. Select Rename selected Link.
Type the new name as -Discussions. - Click Go button.
- Indent the rest of modules with the same steps.
24Rename a Module from the Course Menu
- In the same edit course menu window,
- Check the module you want to rename.
- Check Rename Link and type the new name Course
Contents. - Click Go button.
25Customize Home Page Layout
- Click Designer Options from the Home Page.
- Drag the vertical bar down till you see Customize
menu. - Check Modify layout. Click Go button.
- Select 3 (2 or 4) in the Number of columns tab to
set of columns/icons in a row. - Click Update button.
- Use the same steps to
- Add banner image-add an image at the top of the
home page. - Add hit counter
26Change Course Appearance
- You may change the color of navigational bar and
buttons. - Click Change Settings from the Control Menu.
- Scroll the bar down till you see Customize
Course Appearance. - Select Customize Page Color and click Go
button. - Select a set number such as A.
- Click Update button.
