Title: Outline Matthew 19:39

1
Outline Matthew 193-9
DIVORCE
  • Verse 3 Pharisees Test
  • School of Hillel
  • He that desires to be divorced from his wife
for any cause whatever, (and many such causes
happen among men,) let him in writing give
assurance that he will never use her as his
wife any more for by this means she may be at
liberty to marry another husband, although before
this bill of divorce be given, she is not to be
permitted so to do (Josephus, Antiq. of the
    Jews, 4823)
  • Verse 4-6 Jesus Answers
  • Reaffirmed the Genesis 224 ideal nullifying
    divorce and polygamy

Outline Matthew 193-9
DIVORCE
  • Verse 7 Pharisees Counter
  • appeals to Deuteronomy 241ff
  • recognized the implication ofJesus teaching
    wasdifferent than what Mosestaught
  • Verse 8 Jesus Answers
  • Moses made a concessionbased upon the hardness
    of hearts
  • those who came out of Egyptwere corrupt (Ex.
    327-9 Deut. 135 325, 20 etc.)
  • Hardness of Heart (Acts 1730 e.g., Hos.
    139-11)
  • from the beginning it was not so (cf. v.4)
  • Jesus teaching is not Deuteronomy 24 doctrine
    (cf. Matt. 531, 32)!
  • Jesus teaching predates Deuteronomy 24 and
    thereby nullifies that Mosaic provision

DIVORCE REMARRIAGE
  • Verse 9 The Lords Divorce Remarriage
    Doctrine
  • And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife,
except for sexual immorality, and marries
another, commits adultery and whoever marries
her who is divorced commits adultery

4
Divorce RemarriageDIFFERENT LAWS
  • Moses Law it has been said (Matt. 531)
  • Jesus Law But I say to you (Matt. 532)
  • fornicator put away by death (Deut. 2222)
  • could divorce shy of fornication (Deut. 241,
    viz., uncleanness)
  • put away woman may remarry (Deut. 241, 2)
  • man she marries not in adultery (Deut. 243)
  • 1st husband may never get her back after she
    remarries (Deut. 244)
  • fornicator put away by divorce (Matt. 199)
  • by fornication alone (Matt. 199)
  • put away woman may not remarry/commits adultery
    (Lk. 1618 Mk. 1012 Rom. 73a)
  • man she marries is in adultery (Lk. 1618 Matt.
    531, 32)
  • 1st husband may never get her back if he puts her
    away for fornication and remarries

5
Did Jesus Preach the Gospel or Moses?
  • Some falsely contend that Matthew 1-27 is Old
Testament Law nailed to the cross
  • Jesus lived under the Old Covenant (Gal. 44)
  • YET, Jesus taught the gospel when He came!
  • Matthew 531, 32 is the gospel of the kingdom!

The law and the prophets were until John. Since
that time the kingdom of God has been preached,
and everyone is pressing into it (Lk. 1616)
6
Consequences of Teaching Matthew 1-27 is Old
Testament Scripture
  • Jesus CANCELLED Himself
  • If what Jesus spoke and commanded prior to His
death is Old Testament Law, then He nailed His
    own teaching to the cross!
  • All of Jesus earthly teaching was only in force
    for three years!
  • Why have all such teaching at the end of the
    covenant?
  • NO PURPOSE for writing the gospels
  • The gospels were written years after Jesus died
    (Jn. 221, 22)
  • Why write books that had already been cancelled
    at the cross?
  • If Matthew 1-27 is Old Testament Scripture, then
there is absolutely NO EXCEPTION for divorce and
    remarriage today!
  • Matthew 532 and 199 are the only passages in
all the New Testament that reveal the exception
    of fornication!

7
Beware!
  • Matthew 199 and 532 is the doctrine of Christ
  • It must be revered, defended, and obeyed
  • Those who reject it must themselves be rejected
    (2 Jn. 9-11)
  • False teachers can make a good showing
  • Beware of false prophets, who come to you in
    sheeps clothing. . . (Matt. 715)
  • For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed
appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full
of dead mens bones and all uncleanness (Matt.
    2327)
  • Divorce Remarriage Perverts are only in power
because men desire to cohabit in adulterous
    marriages
  • For the time will come when they will not endure
sound doctrine, but according to their own
desires, because they have itching ears, they
will heap up for themselves teachers (2 Tim.
    43)
  • None will escape the wrath of God, fornicators
and adulterers God will judge (Heb. 134)

8
What Will You Give For Your Soul?
  • For what profit is it to a man if he gains the
whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will
a man give in exchange for his soul? (Matt.
    1626)
  • So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all
that he has cannot be My disciple (Lk. 1433)

9
Deut. 241-4 Matt. 199(NOT THE SAME LAW)
  • DEUT 24
  • marries
  • finds uncleanness (nakedness, improper conduct)
  • write certificate
  • send away
  • woman may become anothers wife
  • second husband divorces her or dies
  • first husband cannot take her back
  • MATT 19
  • marries
  • whoever divorces wife and remarries commits
adultery (cf. Rom. 73a Mt. 532 Mk. 1011 Lk.
    1618)
  • except when divorces for fornication (ill. sex.
    immorality, adultery, homo., lesb., animal,
    incest, etc., see Strongs 4202)
  • whoever marries the divorced commits adultery
woman may not become anothers wife
