Henry VIII Tudor
  • Became King in 1509 at age 18
  • Founded the British Royal Navy
  • Was a very athletic man, but gained severe weight
    as he grew older after a jousting accident

Catherine of Aragon
  • Youngest child of Ferdinand Isabella of Spain
  • Married Henry in 1509 after the death of his
    brother Arthur
  • Had three miscarriages until she gave birth to
    Mary in 1516
  • Henry, upset at not having a male heir and
    thinking his marriage cursed by God, tried to
    divorce her. However, being Catholic, he could
    not
  • Tries to get his Cardinal Wolsey to arrange the
    divorce, but it fails, causing Henry to split
    from Rome (Pope Clement VII)
  • Eventually he annulled the marriage, and Henry
    married his mistress

Anne Boleyn
  • Married Henry in 1533
  • Gave birth to Elizabeth in 1533
  • Was arrested for treason and beheaded in 1536
  • Allegedly had a sixth finger and a third breast,
    which Henry could have used against her in
    witchcraft proceedings

The Act of Succession, 1534
  • The Act made Princess Elizabeth, daughter of Anne
    Boleyn, the true successor to the Crown by
    declaring Princess Mary, daughter of Catherine of
    Aragon, a bastard. The Act also required all
    subjects, if commanded, to swear an oath to
    recognize this Act as well as the King's
    supremacy. Any one who refused to take an oath
    was subject to a charge of treason.

  • Became Henry VIIIs chancellor in 1529 after the
    resignation of Cardinal Wolsey
  • Known to have sent several Lutherans to the
    burning stake during his rule
  • In 1533, refused to sign the Act of Succession
  • Found guilty under the Treason Act of 1534 and
    beheaded

    England
  • Hes the one who ruled Henrys marriage to
    Catherine of Aragon was a crime against the law
    of God.

  • Henrys chief minister 1532-40
  • Pushed the 1st Act of Supremacy through
    Parliament
  • Pushed for the death of Thomas More
  • Supported both the marriage of Anne Boleyn and
    her removal, as well as the marriage of Jane
    Seymour
  • Executed (botchily) after his arrangement of his
    marriage to Anne of Cleves turned out to be a
    disaster.

  • Married Henry in 1536
  • Gave birth to Edward, a son, by c-section in 1537
  • Died from complications two weeks later
  • Henry then marries

  • Married Henry in 1540
  • The marriage was arranged
  • Henry took one look at her and annulled it within
    seven months (a Flanders mare)

  • Married Henry in 1540 sixteen days after he
    annulled Anne/Cleves
  • Wasnt even married two years when she was
    charged with treason (cheating)
  • Beheaded in 1542
  • Cousin of Anne Boleyn, who was also beheaded

  • Dies from either TB or arsenic poisoning at age

  • Made King by the 2nd Act of Succession, which
    made Elizabeth a bastard child.
