• Step by Step Instruction

Needed Equipment

• HEPA filtered changing hood
• Cages
• Feed and water
• 2 pairs of forceps (optional)
• Sterilant (Spor Klenz or Clidox)
• Protective equipment

Protective Clothing

• Coveralls
• Shoe covers
• Bonnet
• Mask
• Gloves

PURPOSE OF THE MICROISOLATOR

• To create a barrier at the cage level
• Barrier implies that special cages and procedures
  are being practiced
• The object is to keep all infection out of the
  barrier or keep whatever is in the barrier inside

How do we maintain the barrier?
Making sure our hands are wet with sterilant when
entering the inside of each animal cage.
The outside of the cage is considered dirty

Start with a clean surface

Put the sterilant in an instrument tray.
If you use forceps for animal handling, 2 pair
should be added to the instrument tray filled
with sterilant and alternated during use.(forceps
are optional)

Remove filter tops(Never place filter tops face
down on the hood. Always keep inside of lid
facing skyward or towards you.)
OR

wet hands with sterilant before touching anything
on the inside of cage

Wire lids can be held, pushed back or put on the
clean cage
OR

Place animal into clean cage using The correct
technique (base of the tail or forceps)
OR

Add cage card holder, Feed, water and filter top
Make sure hands remain wet for the duration of
the change

End with a clean surface
