Is there a chance for PEACEin the Middle East
?
11
To answer this,
We must ask whether the following statements are
true or false
  • Arafat and the Palestinians want to live in
peace, side by side with Israel.

2. Israel will not end the occupation and give up
land for peace.
3. The Arabs are the David in this conflict.
Israel is Goliath, using excessive force against
stone-throwing Palestinians.
12
1
True or False?
Arafat and the Palestinians want to live in
peace, side by side with Israel.
13
Two States for Two Peoples (1)
November 29, 1947 United Nations General
Assembly Resolution 181 calls for the partition
of the British-ruled Palestine Mandate into a
Jewish state and an Arab state.
The resolution is accepted by the Jews in Palest
ine, yet rejected by the Arabs in Palestine and
the Arab states. Arab violence in the Holy Land
breaks out almost immediately.
May 14, 1948 Israel is founded as a democratic
state where citizens enjoy freedom without
discrimination based on religion, race, or
gender. Israel calls for peaceful coexistence
with its Arab neighbors.
May 15, 1948 The armies of five neighboring
Arab states invade the new State of Israel, which
had declared its independence the previous day.
The invasion, heralded by an Egyptian air attack
on Tel Aviv, is vigorously resisted. From the
north, east and south, the armies of Lebanon,
Syria, Iraq, Transjordan, and Egypt invade the
new state.
Israel doesnt lose the war. The Palestinian
problem is born.
14
A Palestinian State?
Notice Before the Six Day War, the Gaza Strip
was under Egyptian rule, and Judea Samaria (the
West Bank) were under Jordanian Rule.
The Palestinians never had an autonomy in these
areas (or in any other area, for that matter).
They didnt start an uprising against Egypt or
Jordan.
Remember, the PLO (Palestine Liberation
Organization) was founded in 1964 -- three years
before the Six Day War. Its goal was the
destruction of the State of Israel.
15
The Six Day War
Israel didnt want this war and was forced into
it. It also didnt want to occupy land, and to
control another people.
But Israel won the war, against overwhelming
odds. Only afterwards, the Palestinians started
the violent effort to gain independence in Gaza
and the West Bank.
16
Two States for Two Peoples (2)
July 25, 2000 - Camp David At Camp David, Presi
dent Clinton offered a proposal for the end of
the Arab-Israeli conflict. According to his
proposal, Israel will give about 96 of the
occupied territories, plus about 3 from within
Israel. The Palestinians will have an independent
state, with east Jerusalem as their capital.
Prime Minister Barak accepted the offer. Arafat
and his associates refused.
The Palestinians made no counter offer, didnt
even ask for clarifications, but simply started
fighting, bringing bloodshed and collective
punishments for both Arabs and Jews.
Once again, the Palestinians were offered an
independent state alongside Israel. Once again,
they refused.
World leaders, and those present at Camp David --
including President Clinton, Dennis Ross, and
James Rubin -- blamed Arafat for the failure of
the Camp David summit.

Arafat's Real Map
While talking about the imaginary Israeli map at
a press conference in Geneva, Arafat wore another
map sewn on his sleeve - the map that is part of
the PLO official emblem. Arafat always wears this
map on his uniform. It is also the symbol which
appears on PLO stationary, including the official
copies of Arafat's speech distributed in Geneva.
In fact, it is the map which appears on the
official emblem of all PLO factions.
That map shows the borders of the intended "State
of Palestine ", revealing the PLO's intentions to
replace the entire State of Israel, including Tel
Aviv, Haifa, and Jerusalem, and not only the
administered areas of Judea, Samaria and Gaza.
18
The PLO Method - The Big Lie
It is an illustration of a propaganda method
practiced repeatedly by Arafat - the bigger the
lie and the more often it is repeated, the more
people will be misled. Against the Big Lie there
is only one defense - the Truth.
Some Relevant Quotes.....
According to the Phased Plan, we will establish
a Palestinian state on any part of Palestine that
the enemy will retreat from. The Palestinian
state will be a stage in our prolonged struggle
for the liberation of Palestine on all of its
territories. Abu Iyad, Araf at' s second-i
n-command , 1988
After the Palestinian state wins recognition
from most of the nations of the world, as
expected, the Israeli presence on Palestinian
lands will become illegal and we will fight this
with weapons. The battle against the Israeli
forces is a right reserved to us.

Mythmaker From his earliest days, Arafat has i
ndulged in exaggeration and the weaving of myths
about his life, insisting, for example, that he
was born in Jerusalem even though his birth, in
1929, is clearly recorded in Egypt.

wouldn't I lie for it?

Arafat - Whats in a mans mind?
In September 1993, former Israeli prime minister
Yitzhak Rabin and Arafat signed the Oslo accord,
which heralded mutual recognition and the
decision of the two sides to abandon the armed
struggle and settle their differences by peaceful
means. Some seven years later, at the Camp David
summit, it became apparent that the diplomatic
effort had not borne fruit. Instead of trying
anew to exhaust the political channel, Arafat
turned to terrorism. Since then, there have been
repeated efforts to put an end to the cycle of
violence, without success.
Unfortunately, it seem like Arafat didnt make
the change, from a terrorist to a head of state.
It can be said, that Arafat didnt take off his
uniform, and not only metaphorically.

Arafat kill as many settlers as you can
Kill a settler every day. Shoot at settlers
everywhere. "Woe to you if you let them reach
their homes safely or travel safely on the
roads. "I want you to kill as many settlers as
possible. "Do not pay attention to what I say
to the media, the television or public
appearances. Pay attention only to the written
instructions that you receive from me.

Palestinian Official Television Broadcasts call
for Killing Jews and Americans
"We will not give up a single grain of soil of
Palestine, from Haifa, and Jaffa, and Acre, and
Mulabbas Petah Tikva and Salamah, and Majdal
Ashkelon, and all the land, and Gaza, and the
West Bank" "Allah, deal with the Jews, your ene
mies and the enemies of Islam. Deal with the
crusaders, and America, and Europe behind them, O
Lord of the worlds."
"Have no mercy on the Jews, no matter where they
are, in any country. Fight them, wherever you
are. Wherever you meet them, kill them. Wherever
you are, kill those Jews and those Americans who
are like them - and those who stand by them -
they are all in one trench, against the Arabs and
the Muslims - because they established Israel
here, in the beating heart of the Arab world, in
Palestine. They created it to be the outpost of
their civilization - and the vanguard of their
army, and to be the sword of the West and the
crusaders, hanging over the necks of the
monotheists, the Muslims in these lands. They
wanted the Jews to be their spearhead
-- Dr. Ahmad Abu Halab
iya, a member of the Palestinian Authority's
Fatwa Council, October 13, 2000

Consider the case of Ikrama Sabri. In July 1997,
Sabri called openly for violence against Israeli
Jews - ''colonialist settlers who are sons of
monkeys and pigs.'' He beseeched Allah to ''take
revenge'' on them (and, for good measure, to
''destroy America, for she is ruled by Zionist
Jews''). Last summer, the mufti whipped up a fr
enzy over the prospect of Jews praying on the
Temple Mount. Any ''Jewish prayer,'' he
threatened, would mean ''massacres the magnitude
of which only Allah knows ... massacres and
rivers of blood.'' The reaction of the
Palestinian Authority? It published Sabri's words
in Al Hayat Al Jadidah, the official Palestinian
newspaper. The mufti's blind hatred of Jews is
echoed over and over, in every Palestinian venue
and medium. Turn on the TV - a sheik offers ''b
lessings to whoever saved a bullet to put in a
Jew's head.'' Open the mail - a letter from
Arafat praises the Tel Aviv disco terrorist as a
''model of manhood and sacrifice.'' Send a child
to one of the Palestinian Authority's summer
camps and he learns that murdering Jews will
assure him a place in heaven. Click on the web
site of Arafat's PLO faction (www.fateh.net) and
read how the killing must continue until ''the
Zionist state is demolished.'

-- The Boston Globe, August 23,
2000

The use of children
28
The appearance of Palestinian children in these
riots is not accidental. The Palestinian
Authority has intentionally mobilized Palestinian
children to man the front line in its struggle
against Israel, frequently using them as shields
to protect Palestinian gunmen. This mobilization
of Palestinian youth has, moreover, been
facilitated by the long-term impact of
Palestinian Authority (PA) curricula,
government-controlled media, and summer camp
programs, which indoctrinated the youth for armed
confrontation with Israel even prior to the
current crisis.

The Palestinian Authoritys schoolbooks
Peace with Israel is not presented as a goal or
discussed as an opinion in the texts. The peace
process is not even referred to in the
schoolbooks. The Oslo accords are mentioned once,
but they are not defined as a peace process,
rather, as a point in time connected to the PLOs
return to Palestine.
The books do not define the problem in terms of
the West Bank and Gaza Strip, the territories
administered by Israel since 1967 and perceived
by the international community to be the essence
of the Palestinian problem. The PA is teaching
their children that the Palestinian problem is
not Israels control over the West Bank and Gaza,
but Israels existence.
I will take my soul in my hand and toss it into
the abyss of death. And then, either life that wi
ll gladden friends or death that will anger the
enemy. The honorable soul has two objectives ach
ieving death and honor.
-- Song of Martyr, Arabic language for Fifth
Grade, p. 60.

Conclusion
The conclusion I drew is that in fact he Arafat
really can't do a permanent deal. He could never
do better than what Clinton put on the table the
bridging proposals presented at the end of
December, and he couldn't accept that.

Dennis Ross, June 22, 2001

2
True or False?
Israel will not end the occupation and give up
land for peace.
33
Is Israel willing to give land for peace?
34
Israel is willing to give a lot for a real
sincere peace.
Just look at the land that Israel willingly gave
up for peace with Egypt, including settlements
and many resources (Sinai - marked in brown).
Israel made many sacrifices for peace with both
Egypt and Jordan. If Arafat will be a Palestinian
Sadat or King Hussein, hell find a willingness
for deep concessions from Israel.
35
Israel is the only democracy in the Middle East.
Israel is the only country in the Middle East
with civil rights for all its citizens, Jews and
Arabs.
Israel is the only country in the Middle East
with a free press.
Israel is the only country in the Middle East
where women have equal rights.
Israel is the only country in the Middle East
where being a homosexual is not considered a
crime, and gays have equal rights.
Israel wants nothing more then PEACE, and is
willing to give a lot for a real, lasting PEACE.
36
Israel is the only country in the world which
protects itself against suicide bombers seeking
its very destruction. The Basques in Spain or the
IRA in Ireland dont use suicide bombers, nor do
they declare that they seek to destroy Spain or
England. Israel is not a colonialist country. I
t didnt go to look for new land, far away in
Africa or the Far East, like European countries
did, to conquer. Israel is protecting itself, the
only Jewish state. Israel is not fighting for
distant strategic interests, like the U.S. in
Iraq, or for territory, like the Russians in
Chechnya. Israel is fighting to secure the life
of its citizens and its existence against an
enemy bent on its destruction.
37
These are the people who want the destruction of
Israel.
They are dangerous, not only to Israel, but to
the entire free world.
38
If the Israelis were able to trust Palestinian
intentions, they would be willing to evacuate the
territories and focus on developing their country
within agreed boundaries, on the basis of the
Green Line. This is not happening, to a large
extent, because of the Palestinian behavior.
Arafat and his people are threatening Israel's
very existence (their demand for exercising the
right of return) and with their actions, they are
illustrating the inherent aggression of their
approach and the inability to rely on their
promises. Under these circumstances, the Israe
li public's stormy mood at the sight of the
spilled blood in Jerusalem should come as no
surprise to anyone.

On May 7, 2001, Israeli patrols discovered a
vessel loaded with weaponry bound for a
PA-controlled port.  Furthermore, it was
discovered that this was at least the third time
that particular vessel had made a weapons drop in
the area. The weapons ranged in destructive
power from Hungarian Kalashnikov assault rifles
and ammunition to SA-7 Strella missiles and 107
mm Katyusha rockets with fuses, anti-tank mines,
and RPG charges. Other weapons found on the
Lebanese ship are powerful enough to strike at
Tel Aviv.
Under the Oslo accords, the PA is forbidden to
have mortars or rockets.
