3
Recommendation based on
  • Statement released by the Canadian Paediatric
Society (CPS) that outlines their current
recommendations on child passenger safety based
    on provincial legislation and peer-review
    literature
  • Includes verbal communication from Transport
    Canada

4
Handle Position
  • Used to advise parents to have the handle of an
infant-only seat in the down position while in
    the vehicle
  • Now .. It Depends
  • New Graco, Chicco, Maxi-Cosi seats allow the
    handle to be up
  • The Combi seat must have the handle up

5
Graco Instructions
  • Rotate handle until it clicks into any of the 4
    positions
  • Position A MUST be used when carrying by handle,
  • Position B, C are convenience positions,
  • Position D is the sitting position,
  • NEVER use position B in the vehicle.

6
Handle Position
  • What is best practice?
  • Best practice is to always follow the
    manufacturers instructions.
  • When given the option for the position of the
handle, the final decision is always left to the
    parents.

7
UAS Upper Weight Limit
  • Some of the child seat manuals have added in
upper weight limit information for the UAS
    (LATCH) anchors on their seats.
  • The vehicle instructions may also have an upper
weight limit for using the lower UAS anchors.
  • Always refer to the manufacturers instructions.
Read the manuals for the vehicle and the child
    seat.
  • Follow the instructions for whichever weight
    limit is reached first.

8
UAS Upper Weight Limit
  • For example, if you have a forward-facing seat
that goes up to 65 lbs and your vehicle specifies
that the maximum weight for using the lower UAS
is 40 lbs, then you cannot use the UAS anchors
after the child reaches 40 lbs. and must use the
seat belt to secure the seat.
