  • The banana trade is the fifth biggest trade in
    the world.
  • Banana plants are actually herbs.
  • Bananas make you happy.
  • Wild bananas originated in Asia and have been
    cultivated for over 4000 years.

  • There are two main models of banana production
    for international export small scale farmers and
    plantations.

  • Major disadvantage in global markets due to scale
    of production
  • Huge loss due to environmental factors like
    tropical storms.
  • Squeezed out of market by large plantations at a
    cost to the environment and to local communities.
