Curse or Coincidence?
By Julie Merrifield-Nelson
2
Did the opening of King Tuts tomb cause strange
things to happen or was it all a coincidence?
3
The greatest Egyptian archeological discovery,
the tomb of Tutankhamen, was due largely to the
work of an Englishman named Howard Carter. The
tomb was discovered in 1922 with the help of Lord
Carnarvon.
4
Howard Carter and Lord Carnarvon found many
wonderful things inside the tomb of King Tut.
5
The tomb was filled with gold, statues and items
that the young king would need for the next
world, including his body!
6
The treasures were spectacular!

8
After the tomb was opened and the contents were
taken, many strange things started to happen.
9
Some of the Strange things that Happened
Lord Carnarvon died of a mosquito bite two
months after the tomb was opened.
All of the lights in the city of Cairo, Egypt
went out moments before his death.
10
At the moment of Carnarvons death, his dog died.
A short time later another archeologist who
helped open the tomb died in the same hotel.
11
The doctor who x-rayed Tuts mummy died in 1924.
A friend of Lord Carnarvons died a day after
visiting the tomb, and another died shortly
after viewing the tomb.
12
Carnarvons wife also died of a mosquito bite.
Carnarvons secretary, Richard Bethell, died in
1929 after collapsing on his bed.
13
Bethells father committed suicide after hearing
that his son was dead.
As the hearse was taking Bethells father to the
cemetary, it hit and killed a small boy.
14
All in all by 1929, six years after the tomb had
been opened, twenty-two people had died. All of
these people had been involved with the opening
of the tomb.
15
Were all of these events because of some ancient
curse that the priests placed on the tomb of King
Tut or do you think that it was all a
coincidence? You Decide!
