2
HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTE
  • Institute of Toxicology was founded in 1935 under
the name Leningrad Institute of Sanitation and
Chemistry. The main goal of the foundation was to
create the Research Center for the prophylaxis
and treatment of acute poisoning by highly toxic
chemicals. The Institute of Sanitation and
Chemistry also became the teaching center in the
field of toxicology. In 1958 it was renamed into
the Institute of Toxicology. Since that time it
has become a leading Center in the field of
toxicological research. The founders of the
Institute of Toxicology were outstanding Russian
    scientists - toxicologists and pharmacologists
Academicians Sergey V. Anichkov, Nikolai N.
Savitsky, Vladimir M. Karasik, Sergey N. Golikov,
and Professors Sergey S. Vail, Alexander A.
Likchachev, Vladimir I. Rosengart, Sergey G.
    Kyznetzov, Sergey S. Krilov. .
