Objectives RAS/6/040
  • To improve the quality of the radiotherapy in
    recipient RCA Member States.
  • The project has three separate components
  • To improve brachytherapy treatment
  • To train radiotherapy technologists (RTTs)
  • To build the regional capability for radiotherapy
    equipment maintenance and repairs.
  • Because the project was formulated by combining
    three separate proposals.

  • Teaching materials were provided to the
    participants in a CD-ROM format.

  • 8 RTC on Quality Audits in Radiation Oncology
  • October 13-17, 2008
  • Cipto Mangunkusumo Natl Cancer Center,
    Indonesia
  • Purpose To introduce the methodology of
    comprehensive audits, based on the IAEA-QUATRO
    guidelines among the participants, so they can
    afterwards spread it at a country level.
  • Four external lecturers.
  • (Dr. Calaguas (PHI), Dr. Healy (AUL), Dr.
    Scalliet (FRA), Dr. Zubizarreta (IAEA) )
  • 35 participants from 9 Member States.
  • 189 professionals have been trained in the
    project.

Cooperation between FNCA and RCAfor synergistic
enhancement of project attainments
  • Radiation therapy of uterine cervix cancer
  • Results of FNCA study and the FNCA protocol
    have been introduced to the participants of RCA
    RTC.

Conclusions of RAS/6/040
  • The project has made an important contribution to
    the improvement of quality of radiotherapy
    services in the Member States.
  • Almost all Member States have national QA
    programs, which generally involve machine QA and
    patient safety.
  • One hundred and thirty professionals were trained
    in brachytherapy treatment for common types of
    cancer in the region
  • (59 others were trained in RTT education and
    quality audits)
  • Member states have initiated action to implement
    the recommendations of the QUATRO audits.
