Title: Midwest ID Solutions is determined to serve the producers of this great nation to help them meet the

1
Midwest ID Solutions is determined to serve the
producers of this great nation to help them meet
the upcoming mandate that the USDA is in the
process of initiating. You may already know of
the State of Michigan's mandate. As of March
1, 2007, metal ear tags will no longer be
acceptable as official identification for cattle
in Michigan. All cattle moving to a show, sale
or exhibition on or after March 1, 2007, are
required to have an official RFID ear tag. This
includes all out-of-state cattle exhibited in
Michigan. Producers must be assigned a
premises identification number before ordering
official RFID ear tags. Not only is Midwest ID
Solutions here to help you meet the coming
mandates, but to allow you to use this new
technology to manage your herd and business, with
reliable and accurate tracking of your own
management information you use daily in your
operation.

RFID crosses over to management tool
AS VET CHECK begins on a
cool, Wednesday morning, the herdsmen at Chuck
Ahlems dairy in Hilmar, Calif., are wearing the
latest in dairy fashion. A walking cane,
headphones, and a handheld personal computer
attached to their arm are all part of a new style
which is helping the farm move at the speed of
technology. Thanks to radio frequency
identification device (RFID) chips, found just
below the hock in all of their cows, the system
has made identification and management easier
than before.

WASHINGTON, April 6. 2006-Agriculture Secretary
Mike Johanns today announced the release of an
implementation plan that outlines timelines and
benchmarks for the establishment of the National
Animal Identification System (NAIS), along with a
plan for the initial integration of private and
state animal tracking databases with NAIS.
The implementation plan continues to set an
aggressive timeline for ensuring full
implementation of the NAIS by 2009. It
establishes benchmarks for incrementally
accomplishing the remaining implementation goals
to enable the NAIS to be operational by 2007, and
to achieve full producer participation by 2009.
Several important components have already been
accomplished. These include the development of
premises registration systems in each State and
the issuance of guidelines for the manufacture
and distribution of animal identification numbers.
USDA is also releasing today the general
technical standards for animal tracking databases
that will enable integration of private systems
with the NAIS. Private database owners are
invited to submit applications for system
evaluation to USDA and offer feedback as the
final technical requirements are established.
USDA will then enter into cooperative agreements
with owners of databases that meet the standards.

The Web-based system collects and records
specific data such as, the animal's RFID number,
the premises number where that animal passed by
an RFID reader with high-speed, wireless data
transfer, and the exact time of the reading. The
data in ScoringAg's database is then formatted
for secure Web pages, for display on secure
screens for authorized persons (in the state
where the data was collected) within seconds, if
required. This data collection and reporting
system uses the national phone infrastructure to
relay data in real time (whether within the range
of cell towers or not) from the high-speed RFID
ear tag reader to ScoringAg Web servers with
speed, precision, and accuracy, at extremely low
cost.
