Battery Status
  • in Aug. Probe 5 was 3.47V now it is 3.54V
  • ie batteries in probes behaving very well!
  • Base station lost two main batteries and could
become critically low in winter with no solar
charging some components reduced in frequency
    to help compensate

18
Communications
  • Probes drifted in time around 2 min since
    disconnection in August
  • Resynched in October and now accurate
  • Probes 5,7,8 have zero retries on coms
  • probe 4 has many retries and is currently
    synchronising

19
Summary
  • Designed, built, tested and deployed 9 sensor
probes, Base Station and a Reference station
  • 7 probes have communicated data
  • Base battery loss may be a problem
  • System is working making real data!

20
Publications
  • IEEE Computer, IEEE SECON papers
  • J. Glaciology submitted
  • PerCom submitted
  • AGU special session conference Dec04
  • News in IEEE Pervasive Computing
  • and various tech news papers/websites

21
Future development
  • mirror setup in Southampton
  • Automatic graphs on web
  • Tuning power use
  • Semantic Web data publishing
  • export technology into Gumsense
  • Move technology into fragile environments
  • related funding bids
