Start By A. Remove the travel motor. Refer to
Disassembly and Assembly, "Travel Motor - Remove
and Install " in this manual. NOTICE Care must
be taken to ensure that fluids are contained
during performance of inspection, maintenance,
testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be
prepared to collect the fluid with suitable
containers before opening any compartment or
disassembling any component containing
fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500,
"Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for
tools and supplies suitable to collect and
contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local
regulations and mandates.

  • Thoroughly clean the outside of travel motor (1)
    prior to disassembly. Weight of the travel motor
    is 118 kg (260 lb).
  • Place an alignment mark across all housings of
    the travel motor for assembly purposes.

Personal injury can result from parts and/or
covers under spring pressure. Spring force will
be released when covers are removed. Be prepared
to hold spring loaded covers as the bolts are
loosened.

  1. Remove two socket head bolts (2) from brake cover
    (3) that are 180 degrees from each other. Replace
    these two bolts with bolts (4) that are slightly
    longer in length. The two longer bolts will
    retain the brake cover when the remaining ten
    socket head bolts (2) are removed.
  2. Carefully remove the ten remaining socket head
    bolts (2) that retain the brake cover in
    position.
  3. Remove two longer bolts (4) from the brake cover.

    brake cover (3) .
  • Remove brake cover (3) from the head assembly.

    must be returned to the original location at

  • Remove the nut and bushing (20) from the rod

    assembly (8) .

motor assembly. Weight of the head assembly is
244.7 N (55 lb). Note The port plate can remain
with the pump housing when the head assembly is

Note Cleanliness is an important factor. Before
assembly, all parts should be thoroughly cleaned
in cleaning fluid. Allow the parts to air dry.
Wiping cloths or rags should not be used to dry
parts. Lint may be deposited on the parts which
may cause later trouble. Inspect all parts. If
any parts are worn or damaged, use new parts for
replacement. Note Apply a light film of "10W"
oil to all components before assembly.

  2. Apply 9S-3263 Thread Lock Compound to two machine
    screws (60). Install the machine screws in motor
    housing (37) and tighten to a torque of 5 Nm (44
    lb in).
  3. Install two pistons (59) in motor housing (37) .
  4. Install valve cartridge (58) in the motor housing.

    dimension (X). The correct dimension is achieved
    by the changing of shims (42). Dimension (X) is
    3.95 0.20 mm (0.156 0.008 inch).
  • Install O-ring seal (36) on motor housing
    assembly (37) .
