Effective Transition Ideas
  • Sending Elementary Schools
  • Send most current RFEP information
  • Send most current performance information for ELs
    close to reclassification criteria
  • Update performance information
  • When ELs score close to the next level on the
DPI, administer the next level DPI to determine
    the highest High Point level

44
Effective Transition Ideas
  • Receiving Middle Schools
  • Whenever possible, dont put more than one ESL
    level in one classroom
  • Form classes based on the DPI information
  • Dont skip students to the next ESL level because
there arent enough students to form a class
  • Dont move students back to ESL because there
arent enough students to form a class

45
  • Unless we address our students language needs
in a coherent, articulated and systematic manner,
our LD5 English Learners will be significantly
challenged in meeting standards, passing the
CAHSEE, graduating and being eligible for
    college. Its up to us.
