Sales Negotiations and Financial Requirements
  • Begin financing discussions early in the sales
    negotiations.
  • Compare all available offers based on same
    criteria.
  • Consider more than just the interest rate.
  • Dont tie up your existing lines.
  • Provide three years of financial statements
    audited statements will be required for purchases
    greater than US1MM.
  • Background information required on the existing
    operations and purchase.
  • Get a financing offer (note this is not an
    approval!).

Buyer Full underwriting, including
understanding your corporate structure.Seller
Is this the manufacturer, exporter, or
consolidated exporter? Does the exporter qualify
as a small business?Have they exported before to
this buyer?Financial Institution Actual
lender, financial broker? Ex-Im Bank will want
to understand all participants roles in the
transaction. Site visits are encouraged!

Timing How long will this take?
  • It all depends on how motivated
  • all parties are!
  • Present full, complete, and detailed financials
    to get an initial quotation.
  • Be prepared to answer financial questions.
  • Have complete final terms negotiated including
    price, shipping terms, shipping dates, insurance,
    licenses
  • Understand the financial institutions approval
    is subject to Ex-Im approval.
  • Ask when the application will be submitted to
    Ex-Im Bank, status at any point throughout the
    process.

What could throw you off target?
  • Understand the impact of changes, communication
    is key.
  • Pre-Approval
  • Financial statements greater than 6 months old.
  • Changes after an application has been filed.
    (Changes are permitted.)
  • Questions from Ex-Im Bank.
  • Post-Approval
  • Delay in down payment to the supplier.
  • Delays from the manufacturer.
  • Working closely with your lender will ensure a
    smooth closing.

Congratulations! Youve been notified that the
loan has been approved. The financial
institution will receive this notification in
writing before issuing loan documents.Based on
the loan approval, loan documentation will be
generated and its time to schedule a closing.
In order for Ex-Im backed financing to take
place, there must be evidence of an export.
