  • Dental clinic opened the doors in June 2003
  • Besides primary medical and oral heath care, the
    center also provides other services including
    mental health, teen clinic, health education,
    some specialty care, advocacy, language and
    cultural access program, and many others

  • The Dental Clinic operates 99 paperless, using
    Dentrix Enterprise system
  • The clinic went through its Performance Review in
    December
  • Selected oral health measure for Performance
    Review was the completion rate of patient cases
    who had a periodontal diagnosis

  • Lessons learned from Performance Review process
  • The process data driven
  • Good data allowed us to learn about the whats ,
    hows and whys of our practice and patients.
  • Great open discussions among team members and OPR
    Team helped to identify contributing and
    restricting factors to the success and effective
    ways to improve outcome measures
  • After Performance Review The clinic implemented
    many new codes to help us learn much more about
    our patients, their oral health status and needs,
    and their health outcomes. From these results, we
    can plan better on how to accommodate our
    patients and develop a strategic plan for the
    future

  • Periodically, we run reports for any measures we
    select
  • To verify for accuracy, IT has also set up a
    separate database to match with Dentrix
  • RVUs are tracked
  • In February, we were able to use RVUs to revise
    our fee schedule

  • EXAMPLE of INTEGRATION using Electronic Health
    Record System
  • Diabetes Collaborative Medical uses Centricity
    for their PCMS and PECS for Diabetes Registry
  • Dental can access for patient information from
    both systems electronically from dental clinic
  • Patients are identified as diabetic patients when
    they are seen in dental.
  • Their periodontal diagnosis is made by dental
    providers.
  • Reports can be run and results are then sent to
    medical providers regarding their registered
    diabetic patients periodontal diagnosis
  • As part of Performance Review plan, we now will
    provide medical providers the periodontal
    diagnosis on ALL patients

  • Tobacco Education
  • Patients are identified as smoker from their
    medical history and information is entered in
    Dentrix as smoker
  • Tobacco education is one of the oral health
    indicators
  • Patients will be referred to Health Education for
    Tobacco Counseling and referral is recorded in
    the system
  • Health Education gives dental reports on
    patients' progress including no show, which will
    be recorded in referral log of Dentrix
