Tone language versus intonation language
  • Tone language A language which uses fixed pitch
    targets to distinguish words, e.g., Thai,
    Cantonese, Mandarin, Swedish, Japanese
  • All other languages can be called intonation
    languages, e.g., French, German, English, Spanish
