  • Created in July 2005
  • Provides approximately 23M annually for freight
    and passenger rail improvements in VA
  • Focus on public benefits
  • Requires a 30 match to state funds

    Enhancement Fund
  • Advises the DRPT Director and makes
    recommendations on REF funding and other issues
    upon request

  • Rail traffic ramping from approximately 4 train
    trips to up to approximately 12 train trips/week
    as terminal operations increase

  • NIT and PMT Rail traffic will continue to
    increase with the completion of the Heartland
    Corridor and the CSX clearance projects for

    portion of Portsmouth Subdivision (rail line that
    runs between Portsmouth and Weldon, NC) to
    provide double stack freight service over a

    Atlanta and the Southeast. Allows double stack
    movement to the VA/NC state line.
