- What do we mean by local structure?
- Organisations (public or private) that provide a
service over a small defined area (e.g. town,
city or district). - Why should you know about them?

16As a qualified Community Sports Leader you can
lead a variety of advanced sports specific skill
sessions
- The Level 2 Award in Community Sports Leadership
provides the ideal first step onto the coaching
ladder. - The CSL qualifies you to lead basic activity
sessions. - If you want to develop more advanced leadership
skills you will need to complete the relevant
National Governing Body Qualifications. You be
then have the correct insurance to carry out
activities.
17As a CSL leader you can organise your own private
sports activity sessions
- You can lead sports activity sessions without
being supervised. - However, there needs to be a main organiser (e.g.
sports club head coach) in case of an emergency.
This is due to insurance cover.
18You can lead basic fitness sessions and set up
fitness tests.
- You can set up fitness tests and lead circuit
sessions, as a method of increasing knowledge
about health and fitness - You can become a Gym Instructor/ Personal
Trainer/ Aerobics Instructor by undertaking
additional specific qualifications

local community/ school
- You can organise a tournament on your own or in a
group depending on the size of the competition.

assessments for your sessions
- You need to make sure the equipment and venue is
appropriate and fit for purpose - You need to check that participants are wearing
the appropriate clothing - You need to carry out risk assessments and take
appropriate action if there is any risk/danger

games and activities you are delivering
- You do not need to have any sporting talent to be
a good sports leader
22You need to devise a session plan every session
that you deliver
- It is important to plan each session and keep
track of what you have delivered to allow for
progression and variety - It is good practice to keep exemplar session
plans to use for future activity sessions
23The CSL qualification provides an ideal stepping
stone to employment
