2
Overview
  • Solahart History
  • Overview of US Solar Market
  • The Solahart Product Line
  • Solahart Projects Around The World
  • Why Solahart?

3
History of Solahart
  • S.W. Hart Co. in Welshpool, Western Australia,
introduced their first solar water heater in 1953
    called Solahart
  • Solahart products sold domestically in the United
States for the first time in 1978
  • Solahart purchased by Southcorp / Rheem Australia
    in 1998
  • Southcorps Australian water heater holdings sold
to the Paloma Group / Rheem USA in 2002. Rheem
    USA assumed sales/marketing responsibility for
    Solahart in January 2004.
  • Solahart is one of the worlds largest
manufacturers of solar water heating products,
    selling in over 80 countries

4
US Solar Water Heating Market
  • US Market size
  • Approx. 13,000 systems annually
  • Half of all systems currently sold into Hawaii
  • Rising energy costs, growing interest in green
    technologies/practices and solar incentives
(Federal, state and utility) driving renewed
    interest in solar

5
Energy Policy Act of 2005 Solar Water Heating
Provisions
  • Creates a new 30 tax credit for residential
    solar installations, cap at 2000.00
  • Applies to property placed in service after
    12/31/05 and before 1/1/09
  • Solar products must be certified by the
    non-profit (DOE funded) Solar Rating
    Certification Corporation (SRCC see following
slide) or comparable entity endorsed by the
government of the State in which the system will
    be installed
  • All Solahart brand systems are SRCC certified

Securing Americas Energy Independence Act
current competing bills in Congress that would
extend incentives past 2008
6
SRCC Certification
  • SRCC a DOE funded, non-profit organization
whose primary purpose is the development and
    implementation of certification programs and
national rating standards for solar energy
    equipment.
  • OG-100 Testing and certification is a
combination of durability and performance with
the test procedures for performance being
specified by ASHRAE Standards 93 and 96 for solar
    collectors
  • OG-300 Integrates results of OG-100 collector
tests and system tests with evaluations against
    minimum standards of system durability,
reliability, safety and operation as well as
    factors affecting total system design,
    installation, maintenance and service.

Solahart Solar Water Heating Systems
  • Passive Thermosiphon Solar water heating systems
  • Simple, reliable
  • No moving parts
  • Low overnight heat loss
  • Open and closed loop designs for installation in
    virtually any climate
  • 54 years of experience
  • Proven track record in 80countries world wide

8
How Thermosiphon Works
Closed Loop For Use in Cold Climates or areas
of poor water quality Heat is absorbed by
collectors and passed to the heat transfer fluid
(Hartgard) inside collectors. As Hartgard temp.
increases, the hot fluid rises into heat
exchanger surrounding tank, heating the water in
the tank indirectly. Cooler fluid, having
given off its heat, is displaced to the bottom of
the collectors
Open Loop For Use In Temperate Climates Heat
is collected directly by the potable water
circulating through the collector. As the
potable water heats up, it rises directly into
the tank. As the heated potable water travels
through the storage tank, the cooler potable
water returns to the collectors. This process
repeats until all water in the storage tank is
heated.

The Solahart Product Line
  • System Configurations
  • 47 Gallon, single panel
  • 80 Gallon, two and three panel
  • 116 Gallon, three panel
  • Open and closed loop
  • Absorber Coatings
  • Black polyester powder coat paint for areas
with medium to high solar radiation
  • Selective black chrome for areas with low to
medium solar radiation. Note systems using
chrome collectors require installation of an
    overtemperature protection device

47 Gallon, Single Panel (181J)
80 Gallon, Two Panel (302J)

Solahart SystemTypes
  • L Series
  • Open Loop Systems
  • 10 Year Tank and Collector Warranty
  • Black Powder Coat Paint Absorber Coating
  • Not for use in areas that experience freezing
    conditions or poor water quality
  • J Series
  • Closed Loop Systems
  • 5 Year Tank and Collector Warranty
  • Black Powder Coat Paint Absorber Coating
  • For use in areas that experience freezing
conditions and moderate to high solar radiation

11
Solahart System Types
  • Freeheat Series
  • Closed Loop Systems
  • 10 Year Tank and Collector Warranty
  • Heavy duty anode rod for superior tank protection
  • Systems use either black powder coat paint or
    selective black chrome absorber coatings
  • Multiple collector configurations allow
    installation in virtually any climate

12
Solahart Savings and ROI
  • A Solahart 302J system in Central Florida will
provide a family of four 92 of hot water needs
    annually.
  • 2466 tons of CO2 will be reduced annually
  • 3386 kWh will be saved by using a Solahart system
instead of an electric water heater
  • ROI
  • Positive cash flow in mortgage
  • Tax free investment with 15 to 20 percent annual
    return.
  • 2000.00 Federal Tax Credit, 500 State Rebate.
