Pressure Charging at IP
  • Tomorrows low CO2 powertrains demand outstanding
    boosting systems.
  • We offer a full range of services to help our OEM
and tier 1 customers to deliver ranging from
design and manufacture of completely new
technologies to the execution of turn-key
    projects for serial production.
  • The following slides illustrate our approach

4
The Drive Feel Issue
Driving behaviour is fundamental to successful
downsizing
  • Delay followed by rapid increase in acceleration
(jerk) is difficult to control and perceived as
    unrefined
  • Driver requires a minimum level of performance to
be accessible without perceived delay in order to
maintain desired trajectory (e.g. gradient, catch
up vehicle in front etc). Thus poor response
    requires either
  • Shorter gearing
  • Driver selects lower gear for a given condition

This effect can reduce downsizing benefits by
more than 50
5
State of Art Thermodynamics(Gasoline)
  • Low speed torque extension
  • Variable cam phasing DI injection
    optimal gas dynamics
  • Reduced EGR
  • Reduced charge temperature
  • Very high volumetric efficiency(gt1)
  • Excellent knocking performance
  • Avoidance of surge condition
  • gt20 reduction of Tmax speed
  • Solutions with twin scroll and pulse converter
  • Emissions
  • Fuel management
  • ?1 exhaust, ?lt1 in-cylinder
  • Late injection for catalyst warm-up
  • Cooled EGR lean burn technologies
