Extended FAN/FCF Client Integration
  • Oracle Call Interface
  • standalone,TAF, connection pool, and session pool
connections are automatically broken and cleaned
up by OCI and the application callback is invoked
within seconds of the failure event.
  • ODP.NET
  • FAN notifies ODP.NET which allows it to clean up
resources from severed connections or establish
    new connections
  • HA Eventstrue on connection string
  • Service must have aq_ha_notificationsgttrue

16
RAC Load Balancing Advisory
  • Monitors workload activity for a service across
    all instances in the cluster
  • Analyzes the service level for each instance
based on defined goal (service time or
    throughput)
  • Publishes FAN events describing the current
service level, amount of work to be sent to each
    instance and data quality flag
  • If no goal defined, no load balancing events sent.

  • Topology View
  • Automated Conversion of Single Instance to RAC
  • Automated Add/Delete Instance
  • Cloning of Oracle Home for Oracle Clusterware and
    RAC

"The clustered pool of storage managed by the ASM
feature in Oracle Database 10g Release 2 presents
new key opportunities for Vanderbilt to improve
storage utilization and save money through
database storage consolidation in a single
instance Oracle Database 10g as well as Real
Application Clusters (RAC) environments"

Oracle Secure Backup
File Systems
  • Oracle Secure Backup is ideal for customers
seeking a low cost alternative to complex backup
    products
  • Best integrated end-to-end backup of Oracle
    Databases
  • Media manger for RMAN backup and recovery of
Oracle9i and 10g databases to tape
  • Fastest Database Backup on the market
  • Backup Oracle Home, App Server and other file
    systems
  • Oracle Secure Backup includes

We're definitely looking at the new backup for
cost savings. We pay a lot of money for Legato
licenses, and this seems comparable

Fault Tolerant Standby
Automatic Failover
Physical or Logical Standby DB
Production Database
Synchronous Log Shipping
  • Fast-Start Failover implements automatic failover
    to a standby database
  • Triggered by failure of Site, Hosts, Storage, or
    Network
  • Works with and supplements RAC server failover
  • Failover occurs in seconds
  • Comparable to cluster failover
  • Original production site automatically rejoins
    the configuration after recovery

24
Fast Start Failover
  • Test Scenario
  • 2 Intel servers, RedHat Linux, running 10.2 beta
    2
  • Simulated Workload 100 TPS, 100Kb/s redo

Airbus testing of Oracle Database 10g Release 2
Data Guard Fast-start Failover produced
impressive results. Failover executed
automatically without manual intervention in less
than a minute. This was much faster than a cold
failover using third party cluster technology.

26
Data Guard's rolling upgrade capability is
amazing. Airbus tested upgrading from Oracle
Database 10g Release 1 to release 2 using this
feature. The elapsed time for the database
upgrade was about 3 hours. But applications were
available for all but less than 2 minutes while a
Data Guard switchover was executed, quickly
transitioning production from the previous
database release to Oracle Database 10g Release

36
Oracle Database 10g Release 2 offers significant
new automations that make database management
even easier.  New features such as Automatic
Segment Advisor and Dynamic Metric Baselines, to
name a few, make my job considerably easier and
allow me to focus more on strategic business IT
issues and less on mundane day-to-day database
management activities

37
"Oracle Database 10g Release 2 builds upon the
manageability enhancements of its first release
and now its administration is even simpler than
before. It has introduced many new great features
that will make the DBAs job much easier, for
novices and experts alike."
