Miscarriage
  • The loss of a pregnancy before 24 weeks.
  • SIGNS
  • Bleeding (more than enough to fill on sanitary
    napkin)
  • Pain (especially in lower abdomen)
  • Cramps
  • Fever

  • 1St trimester months 1-3

First Doctor Visit
  • First visit to the doctor should be
  • After first missed period
  • After a positive home pregnancy test
  • This first visit will consist of a blood test to
    confirm the pregnancy!

  • Every three weeks during weeks 26-34

Doctor Visit Procedures
  • Ultrasound
  • -1st done at about 10 weeks, 2nd done between 19
    and 24 weeks
  • Blood test
  • -To confirm pregnancy, to regulate levels sugar
    and protein in blood
  • Regulate weight, amniotic fluid levels, blood
    pressure, pulse, and general health
  • Keep watch for miscarriage

Morning Sickness
  • Morning Sickness is nausea and/or vomiting during
    the 1st trimester due to pregnancy.
  • The levels of morning sickness vary between
    women. Not all women experience morning sickness.

  • DRINK ALCOHOL
  • GET X-RAYS
  • TRAVEL in an Airplane during the 3rd trimester
  • Take any DRUGS
  • -illegal or prescription or over the counter
  • Consult your doctor about all medication!

Signs Of Pregnancy
  • The number one sign is the missed period!
  • Other signs may include
  • Headaches
  • Spotting
  • Darkening around the nipple
  • Thin clear discharge
  • Morning sickness
  • Lower abdomen cramps
  • Some women even claim that they can just feel
    they are pregnant!

Sex During Pregnancy
  • Increase the amount of communication to be sure
    the expectant mom does not have discomfort.
  • Sex is normal and is not proven to harm the
    unborn baby.
  • In the late stages of the 3rd trimester, sex is
    proven to help induce labor.

Postpartum Depression
  • What is it?
  • During pregnancy, women become accustomed to
    having their child inside them and taking good
    care of themselves. After childbirth the focus
    moves to the new born and away from the mom. This
    can sometimes result in postpartum depression.

  • History of mental illness

  • Difficulty during pregnancy
