What is Temfund?
  • An aggressive, yet selective lender to new and
    existing businesses in the Resource Industrial
    sector and tourism related organizations within
    the District of Temiskaming
  • Primary goal is to promote economic growth within
    Temiskaming
  • Temfund provides business loans and counseling
    services to Temiskaming companies and
    entrepreneurs.
  • Registered as a non-profit Ontario Corporation

Our History
  • Established on April 4, 1990
  • Agreement between Dofasco Inc., Cliffs of Canada
    Limited, Northern Ontario Heritage Fund
    Corporation the Temiskaming Development Fund
    Corporation
  • Incentive loan program established through 4
    million donated from Dofasco and Cliffs to
    mitigate job losses resulting from closure of
    Sherman Adams mine
  • Divested to the local board on September 17, 1997
  • The Board of Directors is made up of eight
    individuals.
  • One member represents the United Steel Workers,
    and the remainder represent the municipalities of
    the District of Temiskaming

Our Mandate
  • To provide assistance to project proponents who
    preferably have the capacity and initiative to
  • Create new jobs for Temiskaming residents
  • Enhance opportunities for labour force to remain
    in our area
  • Offer a niche service/product which displaces
    imports
  • Provide value added and export potential

Eligibility Guidelines
  • Temfund will consider providing repayable loans
    to private sector companies, with preference
    given to projects which provide
  • a demonstrated regional economic benefit
  • import replacement opportunities
  • strategic partnership linkages
  • Temfund will not assist companies in cases which
    would provide unfair competitive advantage to
    other similar existing companies within the area.

Excluded Sectors
  • Projects which do not qualify include
  • Retail or service sector and non-profit/charitable
    organizations unless significant regional
    economic benefit is proven
  • Municipal infrastructure
