Title: Surviving Today’s Job Market

1
Surviving Todays Job Market
what you really need to know
2
The Traditional Path
  • There has traditionally been a clear pathway to
success. Many have followed it and seen great
    success.
  • The path is as follows
  • Graduate from High-School
  • Go to College
  • Get your BA degree
  • Once the above was finished then it was time to
go out and find one of the many jobs available
    for your degree type.

3
The Rules Have Changed
  • While the traditional path for success worked
great for many years, the rules have changed as
    of recently.
  • While education is still as important as ever,
the traditional university experience is not as
relevant as it used to be.
  • Many individuals end their university career and
find that the market no longer supports their
    training.

4
Why Have they Changed?
  • To understand why the rules have changed, we have
to look at a few major events that happened in
    the last decade.
  • The Dot.Com bust was the first of the major
changes in the path to success. The Nadaq
plummeted to 78 of its value.
  • The recent housing crash has had major effect on
employment. Whereas the SP decreased by 57, it
was the global nature of the crisis which was
    devastating.

5
How Have They Changed?
  • When the economy hit the toilet, businesses were
forced to improvise to stay afloat.
  • This meant that businesses had to layoff
employees and learn to do just as much with fewer
workers. As things began to stabilize, these same
businesses realized that they were making just as
    much money.
  • Because profits are as good as ever, businesses
    are loathe to rehire.

6
What are the Effects?
  • The first effect of the new rules is that
entry-level jobs pay a low salary.
  • Most people dont want to accept such a poor work
deal, but unfortunately the number of jobs have
decreased as well. With the added competition,
businesses have employees over a barrel.
  • Poor benefits are another unintended consequence
    of the financial crisis.

7
What are Other Options?
  • Due to these changes people have been forced to
rethink the traditional path to success of
high-school, college BA, and then onto a job.
  • Many have tried their hand at starting their own
business or doing freelance working from home.
  • Unfortunately, these often come up against the
same problems as before. Namely, low wages and
    high competition.

8
Trade Schools
  • Trade schools have become the new path to
success. Classes are inexpensive and in many
instance can be finished in as little as 6
    months.
  • Continuing education online has opened the door
for people to target industries which are still
prospering and for which there is still a demand.
  • This means getting back into the marketplace
quickly and making a good salary again.

9
Online Education
  • It can be a bit intimidating to move from one
profession to another. Particularly if youve
been doing your previous job for many years.
  • Trade schools help people to get over the hump of
learning a new trade. Being often offered online,
    continuing education accommodates just about
    anyone.
  • Several options include training to become
  • Electrician
  • Real Estate broker
  • Cosmetologist

10
Reclaiming Your Future
  • Whether you like it or not, the rules of doing
    business and employment have changed.
  • Whereas the BA degree is still important in some
cases, it does not benefit everyone anymore.
Because the competition is so fierce, there is
    just not enough jobs.
  • By looking into trade schools, an individual can
find a new profession quickly and affordably.
