Title: Canada Immigration FAQ - Temporary Foreign Worker, Education and Work Experience
1FAQ For The Week
By Russ Weninger
2FAQ No. 1
Is it possible to lie about your education and
work experience when applying for immigration?
3FAQ No. 1
I think lying about your education and work
experience is a horrible idea. The federal
government is getting better and better at
catching applicants in lies related to education
and work experience. In many cases, CIC may have
follow-up questions and require further documents.
4FAQ No. 1
If you are unable to comply with these requests,
CIC may assume that you have misrepresented your
situation to them. In those cases, your
application will be denied and you will find it
very difficult to ever come to Canada again.
5FAQ No. 2
I am a temporary foreign worker and have been
recently laid off. To maintain my status in
Canada, I need to find employment as quickly as
possible. Do you know where I might go to find an
employer?
6FAQ No. 2
Unfortunately, I am not an employment counselor,
nor do I provide employment placement services.
As such, I do not feel comfortable recommending
any particular employment strategies. That being
said, I would note that certain industries make
frequent use of temporary foreign workers.
7FAQ No. 2
Such industries include restaurants and fast-food
businesses, meat processing plants, and hotels.
In many cases, workers toil in these industries
for years without coming any closer to having
permanent status in Canada.
8FAQ No. 2
But in some cases, people working in these
industries get lucky, find good employers, obtain
promotions, and eventually acquire permanent
residency. As a strategy to temporarily generate
income and preserve your status in Canada,
working in one of these industries may be an
option.
