Are Dental Cavities Contagious?
The blame of causing cavities is entirely on
bacteria-streptococcus mutans. No matter what you
eat, dental cavities cant develop without these
bacteria. These bacteria were shown to feed on
sugars present in the food to produce an acid
that dissolves the enamel part of the tooth to
start the cavitation process. The resultant
cavity formed attracts more food particles which
in turn provided more substrate for bacteria to
feed upon to form more acid. So the usual advice
given to cavity prone individuals was to cut down
on sweet and sticky food.

Are Dental Cavities Contagious?
1). From mothers to children Mothers with
cavities can transmit caries-producing oral
bacteria to their babies when they clean
pacifiers by sticking them in their own mouths or
by sharing spoons or when a mother tastes a
childs food to make sure its not too hot.
Likewise, parents also find themselves cleaning
off their childs spoon with their own mouth or
sharing a meal using the same utensils.  Avoiding
this habit can go a long way in stopping the flow
of bacteria from your mouth to your childs.

common due to a better developed immune system,
researches have confirmed the transmission of
cavity causing bacteria among couples.

while brushing. The same toothbrush if used any
other individual serves as a source of bacterial
infection.
