complete twin ambitious projects in two years

Aurangabad Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray
has urged the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation
(AMC) to complete the twin ambitious projects 
Rs792 crore water distribution scheme and Rs465
crore drainage upgrade scheme over the period
of two years. We need to complete the 247
water distribution and drainage projects well
before the allotted time. People in the city are
facing an acute shortage of water, Thackeray
said during the launch of these projects.

The 247 water distribution project since its
conceptualization in 2006 has witnessed many ups
and down. It was not an easy journey for the
authorities to launch the project. It got delayed
due to various unavoidable circumstances, but
finally, we are launching it and hope to complete
it very soon, Thackeray said. AMC will hand
over the water distribution system to a private
partner the Aurangabad City Water Utility Company
Ltd (ACWUCL) from September 1, 2014. The company
will start installation of a 47 km long pipeline
from the Jayakwadi reservoir to Aurangabad.
Besides, it will also build about a 1,250 km long
network of internal pipelines in all city areas.
The company will execute the project in the next
three years and operate it for 25 years.

Further, the civic body has assigned the drainage
upgrade project to Khillari Infrastructure. The
existing drainage system, which will be upgraded
under the centres Urban Infrastructure
Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns
(UIDSSMT), will take care of the citys drainage
system till 2030. The project comprising
six sewage treatment plants with a total capacity
of 222.5 MLD is slated for completion in three
years. According to municipal commissioner
Harshdeep Kamble both these projects would bring
in a sea-change in the city. People will not
face any water scarcity any more. Complaints from
citizens about drainage leakages will also be
resolved soon, Kamble said. EPC
