Tim Pivarnik served Calumet High School for 3
years and brought a huge appreciation for the
institute. From 2009 to 2012, he accomplished
many significant tasks. It was only due to the
effort, dedication, and hard work of Tim that
Calumet High School was named as a Demonstration
Site by the New Tech Network. It was actually
based on his accelerated and successful
employment of schedule, a distinction generally
reserved for 5 year New Tech Schools.

He effectively implemented a 45 minute elongated
school day, 2 days in a week for teacher
professional development meetings after students
leave the school. He posted double digit
increases in Biology, English, and Algebra ECA
scores simultaneously in Spring 2011 eradicating
Calumet High School from State academic probation
in 2 years. Additionally, Tim designed,
developed, and effectively implemented a 6 week
interim assessment course across curriculum to
start the procedure of data driven details.

Tim Pivarnik successfully progressed a 6 week
interim assessment course into 8 Step Process
Integrated System for Improved Student
Achievement, and he also developed Data
Blinders for all teachers to categorize student
scores on interims. He identified students of
concern requiring both long as well as short term
remediation grounded on results of interim. He
successfully led the high school from a 9th grade
New Tech Model approval to a 9/10 New Tech Model
implementation based on the big success of their
freshman academy, thereby accelerating their 4
year New Tech accomplishment schedule by 1 full
school year.

As a significant member of the district
negotiation team, he assisted with effectively
negotiating and enforcing the 1st settled teacher
contract in 4 years at Lake Ridge Schools. Tim
was greatly appreciated by the Secretary of
Education as well as Under Secretary of Education
department. Secretary Arnie Duncan emphasized the
significant gains made by the school in merely 2
½ years under Tim Pivarnik's leadership, thereby
leading Calumet off State probation.
