Outstanding professionalism, creativity and
technical ability on display at School of
Textiles Exhibition and Fashion Show
2
  • Last night Archie Hume and Amy Stirling attended
the Industry Event at the Graduate Degree Show at
    Heriot Watt Universitys internationally renowned
    School of Textiles in Galashiels.

3
  • The School of Textiles has been an important
source of talent for the textile industry since
1883 and graduates recognised by industry as
world class are employed both locally and
    globally.

5
  • Whilst many of the graduates will have
    experienced industry directly through placements
and internships, last nights Industry Event was
an important and exciting opportunity for
students and industry representatives to meet.

6
  • Recruitment is common at the event and prominent
names such as Lyle and Scott travelled from
London to view the work and meet students.

7
  • In recent years the local textile industry has
experienced a resurgence as lots of small
companies carve a niche for luxury, high end
    textiles and knitwear.

8
  • Chanels purchase of Barrie Knitwear is perhaps
the most public face of this trend but throughout
the Borders there are a number of small
businesses and mills, sometimes employing as few
as 10 staff and the links between these companies
and the School of Textiles are of mutual benefit
    to all.

  • Archie and Amy were hugely impressed by the
    craftsmanship, technical knowledge and
innovation. They were particularly drawn to
Louise Jenkins work in tweed and felt theyd
found a kindred spirit when they learned that
Louise had completed an internship at Archies
favourite mill, Lovat Mill, weavers of A Hume
    bespoke tweeds.
