History of Diamonds
  • The discovery of loose diamonds was made in South
Africa around 1867. In the dark ages, loose
diamonds were thought to have healing power and
were used as a medical aid to heal wounds and
cure illnesses. During the middle ages, its
beauty attracted more people and its value
    increased.

9
  • In order to prevent mineworkers from swallowing
the loose diamonds in an attempt to smuggle them
out of the mines, mine owners perpetuated myths
that they were poisonous. Many of the large and
famous loose diamonds found during the middle
ages such as the Koh-I-Noor and the Blue Hope
helped increased the popularity of diamonds,
    giving it worldwide recognition.

10
  • Diamonds are on most cases 99.95 percent carbon.
Diamonds are the only gems in the world made up
of a single element. The other 0.05 percent
include trace elements, which can effect a
diamonds color. Before a diamond reaches the
display case, it goes through an extensive
    process.

11
  • A diamond is formed under high pressure and
temperature that exits only about a hundred miles
below the Earths surface. The carbon atoms which
essentially make up what we know as a diamond are
all bonded the same way in all directions. This
special formation process along with its unique
crystal structure and chemical composition is
    what makes a diamond extraordinary.

12
  • After a diamond is formed 100 miles beneath the
Earths surface, it is then pushed upward by the
Earths pressure until it arrives to the Earths
surface. Once found it is then cut, polished, and
cleaned until its true beauty and sparkle shines
through. After it is sent to an independent
    diamond grading laboratory for unbiased
certification, it is sold as a certified loose
    diamond.

13
  • Why purchase certified loose diamonds? Before
purchasing a diamond, it is critical to verify
that it has undergone an unbiased and
    professional examination through an independent
    and accredited certification company. This
protects you from paying for overrated and
    falsely advertised diamond quality.

14
  • What is a Diamond Certificate? A diamond
certificate, also called diamond grading report,
diamond dossier, Diamond Full Certificate, and
Hearts Arrows Diamond Report, is a report
created by a team of certified gemologists. The
diamond is evaluated, measured, and scrutinized
using trained eyes, a jewelers loupe, a
    microscope, and other industry tools.

15
  • A completed certificate includes an analysis of
the diamonds dimensions, clarity, color, polish,
symmetry, and other characteristics. Many round
diamonds will also include a cut grade on the
    report.
  • What diamond shapes do you carry? San Diego

San Diego Jewelry Brokers Diamonds Are Certified
  • Every certified loose diamond sold by San Diego
Jewelry Brokers has been analyzed and graded by
either the Gemological Institute of America (GIA)
or the European Gemological Institute (EGL USA).
These two laboratories are among the most
respected laboratories in the diamond industry
and are known for their consistency and unbiased
    diamond grading systems.

18
  • Diamonds that are accompanied by these grading
reports are the most highly valued in the
industry. Since all diamond shapes are very
    different, unique characteristics determine the
quality for each shape. To learn more about
different diamond shapes, visit our Jewelry
    Education page for more information.

San Diego Jewelry Brokers Ethical Sourcing /

  • Many of our loose diamonds originate in Russia,
Canada, South Africa, Australia, and Brazil. San
Diego Jewelry Brokers has a zero-tolerance policy
towards purchasing conflict diamonds. We purchase
and sell all our diamonds through suppliers who
undergo extreme measures to adhere and enforce
the standards established by the Kimberley
    Process.

20
  • All loose diamonds sold at San Diego Jewelry
Brokers are warranted and conflict free. The
Kimberley Process is an international process
aimed to track and certify diamonds. The process
requires all U.S. diamond retailers to buy
diamonds from manufacturers who have proper
documentation warranting that the diamonds were
obtained through ethical and legitimate sources.
