Robert M. Pope Grows Up on the Connecticut Seaside
New London had long been known to have the best
and deepest harbor on Long Island Sound where it
is situated, and was a base for the fledgling
American Navy during the Revolutionary War.

Robert M. Pope Attends East Lyme High School
in East Lyme, Connecticut
Robert M. Popes native city of New London CT is
home today to Connecticut College, Mitchell
College, the United States Coast Guard Academy,
and The Williams School. Robert M. Pope attended
high school at East Lyme High School in East
Lyme, Connecticut. Today, East Lyme High School
is listed as one of the top 500 secondary schools
in the United States by U.S. News World Report.

Saratoga Wheelhouse
Robert M. Popes adoptive father would serve in
the United States Navy over 200 years after the
Revolutionary War, overseeing naval submarine
operations from State Pier in New London, CT.
His son Robert M. Pope was taken along on
submarine and vessel cruises, including enjoying
the view from the wheelhouse of the USS Saratoga
as he cruised with it to its home port of Naval
Mayport Station, Mayport, Florida.

Robert M. Pope of the city of New London CT began
to work as a volunteer with his local fire
department at the tender age of 15. Robert
became a junior member of the firehouse, washing
dishes, sweeping up and performing whatever
duties were needed, living full time at the
firehouse by the time he was 17. Robert worked
to become one of the first Emergency M
Technicians in Connecticut.
