When your hardwood flooring has any minor
damages, you need to remember that it can be
repaired by professional hardwood flooring
experts but there are a few do it yourself
assignments that can also be accomplished. There
is common hardwood flooring problems that you
need to be aware of and what can be done about
them.
3
Split or Cracked Wood many hardwood floors will
develop small cracks or splits over time on the
surface of the wood. Angled nails can be sued to
do spot repairs and secure any two pieces
together in addition to wood putty that will be
used to hide blemishes. However, if there are
larger cracks on your floor, you may want to
consider hardwood floor refinishing but when the
splits are completely bad, you just need to
replace entire planks.
4
Gaps in the Planks another common problem with
hardwood flooring is when gaps develop between
the planks with the most common cause of these
gaps being nature. Wood will definitely shrink
after it dries up and will expand when exposed to
wet and humid conditions. With this type of
regular expansion and contraction over time the
gaps will almost always remain. In most cases you
will need to exercise a dose of patience because
the same natural process could eventually close
up those gaps in relation to changes in the
weather and humidity.
5
Buckling A buckled floor refers to a situation
where the floor boards warp and het lifted from
the subfloor they were attached to. When this
problem occurs, you will need to straight away
call the flooring company so that their
professionals can tell exactly what the root
cause of the problem is. After the cause of the
problem has been identified, you must take the
necessary measures to address the issue once and
for all the boards will have to be reattached
firmly to the subfloor again so the problem wont
arise again.
6
Cupped Floors Cupped floors are also known as
wash boarding this is a problem that develops
gradually across the width of the wood strips
especially where the edges of the planks are
raised up while the center of the board sinks
downwards. The main cause of cupped floors has to
do with moisture imbalance because there will be
more moisture on one side of the wood plank than
the other. The solution is to try and balance the
humidity levels in your home and after the floor
has stabilized, hardwood floor refinishing will
do the trick.
