  idioms etc.
• They also learn new ideas, encounter moral
  problems that they need to work through on their
  own and get exposed to different ways of
  thinking.
• Reading for pleasure is something every parent
  should encourage their child to do as much as
  possible.

Keep a journal

• Use visual prompts or sentence starters.
• Describe your day to day activities
• Try free writing!
• Encourage students to write at least every other
  day. A good time is in the evening before heading
  to bed or first thing in the morning.
• Remember to illustrate
• your work.

• Visit a museum or find a work of art online.
• Ask the following questions
• What is happening in this artwork?
• What makes you say that?
• How does this artwork make you feel? Why?
• VTS is a proven way to support literacy through

• Exquisite corpse is a writing game devised by the
  surrealists
• It involves writing a sentence on a piece of
  paper and then folding the paper so that the next
  person can only see the last word of the
  sentence. Keep writing until everyone has had a

• Maintaining academic progress is important, but
  so is being a child.
• Learning through life experiences is crucial to
  development.
