  • Web design is one of those fields that is on a
crossroads between two very dynamic areas the
Internet and art. Both of these change at a
breathtaking pace, admittedly for very different
reasons. As technology gives designers room to
implement more of their ideas on websites, web
design grows different each year. And as certain
art trends get stale due to being overused, new
bold strategies grab the attention of the public.
Here are the five trends that we expect (and hope
for) in the vibrant field of web design in 2016

3
1) More originality
  • White backgrounds, long vertical scrolling and
minimalism this was last years trend. While
both pleasant to the eye and useful on mobile, it
has become somewhat stale. This is why we expect
an emphasis on originality as an attempt to stand
out from the competition. Originality in this
case would mean more custom-drawn images, and in
general more new ideas rather than following old
    patterns.

2) Brighter, bolder colors
  • Vibrant colors are already making a comeback and
we only expect that to increase. Bright colors
have escaped from the cliché of being silly and
are becoming more accepted in the professional
field. One reason for that is flat design,
minimalistic little icon boxes where color is
used to convey a certain message. With the
increase of flat design mostly thanks to mobile,
colors will be more present in the future of web
    design.

3) Microinteractions
  • Microinteractions or micro experiences will also
become more prevalent in web design. In case
youre unfamiliar with the term, it essentially
describes little interactions within the site.
Facebook Likes are a good example.
Microinteractions can help you engage users with
little snippets and urge them to take a certain
action, like booking tickets or sharing something
    on social media.

4) More motion in images
  • Storytelling and moving images in general are a
rising trend on all kinds of websites from
personal blogs to news outlets and corporate.
Cinemagraphs and other products of motion design
are getting lighter in size and better in
quality, allowing their easy integration on
websites. However, we dont expect web designers
to go overboard with those. Although motion
images are an excellent way to grab attention,
using too many can quickly become a burden to the
    eye.

7
5) Typeface revolution
  • Font types and font sizes have been generally
universal for a while now. With the web opening
up thanks to tools like Google Fonts, there is
place for better integration of all kinds of
typefaces. This will lead to new opportunities
for designers as well. Fonts might seem like a
small thing, but any improvement to legibility
and attractiveness of a body of text can have a
huge impact on user perception. We expect more
designers to experiment with new things and
contribute to the increase of originality
    mentioned in the first prediction.
