Whether you are moving across the street or
across town, moving is a big job but there are
things that you can do to make the move go smooth
and easier.  You can be less stressed on moving
day if you do not put off doing all the
preparation until the last minute.  There are
two main areas that do require preparation.  One
is preparing your new home and the other is
packing up your own home.  Generally, when you
sell or buy a home both parties have thirty days
to vacate their home for the new owners.

The first thing to do is go through your stuff
and make a list of what to keep, what to throw
away, what to give away, and what to sell.  Doing
these things will help you have less to pack and
move.  Do one room at a time and give yourself
a few of days to finish each room.  As you go
through each room start packing things that you
are not going to need before the move like
knickknacks you are keeping, photo albums, books,
off-season clothing, etc.  Make sure that you
label each box as to what room it goes into in
your new home.  Also mark on the box the basic
items in there if you want.

As the packed boxes start to accumulate have a
place you can start stacking them so they are not
in the way  Approximately a week before the mover
comes make sure that you check all the rooms
including the basement, garage, and attic to make
sure that you have not forgotten to pack
anything.

A few days before the big move pack up the dishes
and silverware.  You can always use paper plates,
Styrofoam cups, and plastic utensils.  If it is
possible to move a couple of days early it will
give the new homeowner time to prepare the house
for their stuff.

If the new owners are out of the home before
thirty days you will have the time to prepare
your new home by cleaning the cupboards and
drawers, painting the walls if you choose so,
clean the carpets, mop the kitchen and bathroom,
etc.  Next you need to create a list of the
moving service that have a good reputation

You also need to make that you have the
electricity turned on along with the phone.  If
you have a gas stove you will need to contact the
gas company to have the gas turned on.  You
should also do a mail change so your mail will
not go to your own home.Take the time to go
into each room and visualize where the furniture
will be placed so you can tell the professional
movers which room everything goes into.
