  • Today, we are going to explore four rules that
you can put in place to help you choose the
correct type of legal representative for your
legal or civil case. These rules will help ensure
that you choose the best person for the job.
  •
  • OK, so here are the four most important rules
    when choosing legal representation
  • Identify the Nature of the ProblemThe first
thing that you will need to do is to work out the
nature of the problem. There are many different
areas of law, and a legal representative in one
area (e.g. family law) is not necessarily the
best person to help you in another area (e.g.
conveyancing). Although, most solicitors can take
on cases across the board, it is definitely
sensible to choose one with experience with your
particular issue. Here is a list of most areas of
    law

3
  • Business crime child care law
  • Conveyancing
  • Commercial property
  • Company and commercial law
  • Criminal defence
  • Employment
  • Family law
  • Legal disputes (including if you are suing or
    being sued)
  • Motoring offences
  • Personal injury
  • Power of attorney
  • Wills and probate

4
  • Once you have identified the area of law that you
require, you can then start to look for
solicitors that cater to that particular issue.
  •
  • If you're confused about an area of law, then
contact the law society or your local Citizens
Advice Bureau and they should be able to offer
    assistance.
  •
  • Identify Potential Solicitors by Searching The
Law Society databaseNext, you need to identify
potential solicitors. This is easy, simply
consult The Law Society website and search for
solicitors in your area. For example, if you're
looking for help with parking fines in Ashford
Middlesex (there have been quite a few disputes
over private parking firms of late!), then look
for motoring offences solicitors in Ashford
    Middlesex.

5
  • Consult with a Number of Solicitors before
Settling On One Particular PersonThe majority of
solicitors will offer you a consultation free of
charge. You should take advantage of this to
discuss your needs with a number of solicitors.
The reason being that the solicitor/client
relationship is frequently stressful and its
important that you choose a solicitor with which
    you gel.
  • Check out Reviews and Testimonials Where
AvailableFinally, ask to see their testimonials.
This will help you to understand how other people
rate their service. If you can, you should ask
people in the local area. This is another reason
why we mentioned earlier, that if you live in
Ashford, you should look for solicitors in
Ashford Middlesex. It allows you to find out from
the locals how other people rate the solicitor.

6
  • You can also check out online reviews, too.
Remember that you need to keep in mind that some
may be bias towards the solicitor, but you should
be able to discern a general trend.
