How to Improve Fuel Economy of Your Car in Winter

Description:

Cold weather conditions affect the fuel economy of a car adversely. This happens due to a number of reasons. For example, reduced aerodynamics, low tyre pressure, increased idling time and so on are some of the contributing factors for the reduced fuel economy. Driving through poor road conditions is also one of the primary reasons. However, there are certain methods you can implement in order to improve the fuel economy of your car. Let's take a look at some of these here. – PowerPoint PPT presentation

How to Improve The Fuel Economy of Your Car in
Winter
2
INTRODUCTION
As the temperature starts to drop, so does the
number of miles your car can travel for each
gallon of fuel. This occurs due to a variety of
reasons which include   improper road
conditions lowering of the tyre pressure and
engine temperature increased aerodynamic drag and
idling increased rolling resistance and so on.
The good news is, there are a few ways to
overcome these troubles and improve fuel economy.
Lets take a look at these here
3
Park the Car in a Warm Space
Parking the car in a garage will ensure that the
engine warms up quickly. Warming the engine to an
ideal temperature will not require as much effort
as it would if the car had been parked for a long
duration in the cold.
4
Avoid Idling for More Than 30 Seconds
Nowadays, cars do not need to idle for a long
duration to warm up the engines and interiors. In
fact, the engine usually warms up quicker when
the car is driven. Idling for more than 30
seconds will only lead to a waste of fuel.
5
Check the Tyre Pressure
Low air temperature reduces the tyre pressure
considerably, thus lowering the fuel economy of
your car. Therefore, it is vital to check the
tyre pressure from time to time and adjust
accordingly.
6
Use the Right Oil
Cold weather increases the thickness of oil and
other lubricants. This increases friction and
forces the engine to work harder, which requires
more fuel. Ensure the oil you use for your car
has the level of viscosity recommended by the
manufacturer.
7
Drive Slow
The aerodynamic drag of a vehicle is directly
proportional to the air density. Cold air is
extremely dense, increasing the aerodynamic drag.
In fact, the aerodynamic drag increases by 2 for
every 10-degree Fahrenheit drop in temperature.
This lowers the fuel efficiency of the car.
Driving slow can help in avoiding this problem.

CONCLUSION
These tips can help you save money on the fuel of
your car. You can consider investing the money
saved in private number plates. These are smart
investment options that can generate lump sum
returns when they are sold at a later date.
