Title: 6 Risk Factors Associated with HIV

1
What are the Risk Factors of HIV
2
Complications of AIDS?
  • Tuberculosis very commonly develops in HIV
patients, especially those living in Asia and
Africa. Because many strains of tuberculosis are
resistant to drugs, the mortality of this
    infection is high.

3
Complications of AIDS?
  • Cytomegalovirus very rarely occurs in healthy
people but is very common in HIV patients. It is
easily acquired by contact with body fluids like
tears, saliva, blood urine, semen or breast milk.
Because of the weak immune system. CMV thrives
and often causes damage to the eyes, brain,
digestive system and lungs. It is also quite
    difficult to treat.

4
Complications of AIDS?
Candidiasis is another very common fungal
infection in HIV patients. It often infects the
tongue and presents with whitish patches in the
mouth. Other organs affected by candida include
the vagina and esophagus (the swallowing tube).
5
Complications of AIDS?
Cryptococcal meningitis is a serious infection of
the brain and spinal cord. The organism
cryptococcus is a fungus found in soil, and it is
acquired by inhaling contaminated soil particles.
Once it gets in the body, it infects the lung and
brain. If not treated it is usually fatal.
6
Complications of AIDS?
Toxoplasmosis is a parasite acquired from
infected cats.
7
Complications of AIDS?
HIV/AIDs patients can also develop cancers like
Kaposi sarcoma, lymphomas, wasting syndrome,
severe dementia, and kidney disease.
