Title: The Pros and Cons of Leather Walking Boots

1
The Pros and Cons of Leather Walking Boots
2
  • Walking is a popular pastime, and its becoming
increasingly popular of late (or maybe Im just
getting old? Eek). Its good because its low
impact, great exercise, and you get to see some
incredible sites. However, you do need the right
equipment, and in most cases, this simply means a
great pair of walking boots or shoes.
  • Today, we arent going to talk backpacks, walking
sticks, or emergency rations. Instead, we are
going to focus on the choice of boots, and in
particular, on the pros and cons of leather boots
and shoes. We are talking specifically about
walking boots and shoes, such as Rieker comfort
walking boots, not other types of leather
    shoes/boots.

  • The Cons
  • Im an optimist I like to get the bad things out
of the way first. Leather does have a few
downsides to it compared to its synthetic
    cousins
  • Its heavier when walking long distances as a
new walker, this can be problematic. Your legs
wont necessarily be strong enough, and this will
cause discomfort. In the worst-case scenario, it
will put you off walking altogether. If you
expect it, though, you can choose to walk shorter
distances and build up your strength.
  • Its expensive leather is a high quality
material that is much sought after. As such, it
commands a fair price tag in the market.
Generally, leather walking boots are more
expensive than the synthetic boots are.

  • 3. It takes time to wear in you will have to
spend a good 10 hours wearing in your new
leather boots. However, once they do mould to
your feet, the fit becomes much better than
synthetic shoes. Its just that first hump that
you will need to get over.
  • 4. Can be less breathable than synthetics
leather does breathe a little, but its not as
breathable as the more expensive shoes.
  • The Pros
  • Right, so weve got the bad things out of the
way, now onto the good things, and there are
    many
  • 1. Its a strong material its often much
stronger than synthetic material. A pair of
leather walking boots, such as Rieker, can last
decades, while the synthetic shoes and boots
might last five to ten years.

  • 2. Its weather proof leather is the natural
hide of an animal, and theyre weather proof. You
dont see rain getting inside a cow, do you?
Nope, and so you dont see rain getting though
the leather, either. Its a natural water
    repellent.
  • 3. They mould to your feet for me, this is by
far the biggest advantage of leather boots and
shoes. Over time, they mould to your feet and
they will fast become the most comfortable
walking shoes youve ever owned. One thing's for
certain once you go leather, you never go back.
