Grow Poppy Seeds in 5 Stages

2
Part1. GERMINATION
  • Yes, Poppy Seeds Do Need Light To Germinate!
  • They Hate Being Transplanted
  • And Prefer Cool Temps.
  • The Best Times To Start Growing Poppies And Plant
Seeds Is Either Early Fall, Early Spring, Or Both
(Depending On How Mild Your Winters Are).

3
Part 2. INDOORS OR OUTDOORS?
  • I try not to encourage starting indoors unless u
absolutely have no other choice, because it can
take them an additional 2 weeks for them to
Acclimate to the Outdoor environment, at which
point their Growth will be stunted.
  • BUT IF YOU MUST, USE PEAT PELLETS, AS THEY DON'T
    TRANSPLANT WELL.

4
Part 3. TEMPERATURE
  • They Prefer Temperatures To Be Between 35? And
65? Degrees (F) For Germination. But Can
    Withstand Warmer Temps When Mature.
  • If You're Too Late Or Too Hot To Plant In Your
Area, we Have Tricks That Work in our Tutorial
where you can use ICE, SALT, and/or PERLITE to
    promote cool Temps.

Part 4. FERTILIZER SOIL
  • Poppies are NITROGEN Dominant throughout their
ENTIRE Life Cycle. A proper N-P-K mix of 6-3-3
    is suggested.
  • Sow Seeds wherever their permanent home will be.
    THEY HATE TRANSPLANTING!
  • PLANT IN LOOSE, WELL-DRAINED SOIL. Avoid Manure
    or Compost.
  • Beware of Birds and Slugs - as Birds will have up
to TWO Weeks (germination period) to eat the
seeds before they sprout, and tiny little Slugs
    will eat fresh Sprouts.

6
Part 5. HARVESTING STORING SEEDS
  • If harvested directly from pod, u need to dry
them first until their Moisture level is around
18 - Then they'll be ready for storage.
  • Use Paper Bag - at room Temp, they can be viable
for up to 3 years. You can also refrigerate them
    for up to 5-10 years.
