• What security is built into the EPS?
• Prescription information is all submitted
  electronically to central part of EPS, which is a
  sub-system within Spine. All information which is
  transmitted electronically between nominated
  online pharmacies is encrypted so it cannot be
  understood if intercepted.

• How long is prescription data held within the NHS
  Care Record Service?
• For EPS Release 1 the prescription messages are
  held within the EPS only while prescription is
  valid.
• What information shall be transmitted to the EPS?
• Information that is held within the EPS is same
  as written on paper prescriptions, i.e. patient
  details including NHS number, prescriber and
  prescribed medication information.
• Does barcode on E-Prescription contain any
  information about the patient?
• No. The barcode on the prescription represents a
  unique code that helps pharmacist to identify the
  prescription in the Electronic Prescription
  Service. It does not contain any information
  about the patient whatsoever.
