What is Peer Review?
  • Peer Review plays a major role in raising the
standard of scholarly publishing. It is designed
to assess the validity, quality, and most of all
integrity of science by filtering out the poor
quality content from the manuscripts. It is a
widely accepted method for research validation.
  • Peer review functions as a content filtration
method, directing better quality manuscripts to
better quality journal papers and thus creating
    better journals in research academia.

Peer Review Process

Types of Peer Review
  • Single Blind Review
  • This type of peer review is the most traditional
method. In this, the author does not know the
identity of the reviewers. It is one of the most
common methods of reviewing the science journals.
  • Double-Blind Review
  • In case of double blind peer review, the
reviewers dont know the identity of author and
    vice versa.

5
  • Open Review
  • The identity of author and reviewers is known by
all the participants. This type of peer review is
not a popular one, only minority of journals go
for open peer review. The accepted manuscripts
can be accessed by the readers post-publishing.
The readers can directly view the credentials of
the author as well as the peer reviewers.
  • Transferable Peer Review
  • This one is fairly a new form of peer review. In
this case, the author submits his manuscript,
when it has been reviewed by the peers , they can
decide whether it is suitable to be published in
their journal or not. In case it is not suitable,
then they have an option to transfer it to the
    other journal.

6
Purpose of Manuscript Peer Review
  • Getting a manuscript peer review is a valid form
of research evaluation. It ensures that an
original research has been done which contributes
to the existing knowledge of a particular
    discipline.
  • Evaluation- By selecting the best quality
    manuscript for publications.
  • Integrity- Reviewers are independent entity of
journal publication and research being conducted.
  • Quality- Revised and filtered content helps the
researcher to improve the quality of the final
    research.
