What is a Protective Order?
A protective order law is an order used by a
court to protect a person, business, company,
establishment, or entity, and the general public,
in a situation involving alleged domestic
violence, harassment, stalking, or sexual assault.

• All protective order statutes permit the court to
  instruct an alleged abuser to stay a certain
  distance away from someone.
• Courts can also instruct an alleged abuser to not
  hurt or threaten someone.

Duration of Protective Orders
Protective orders have a wide range of duration.
Typically, they last for one year with extensions

them to just 90 days. Although most states impose
