Title: Food Paradise, Singapore Lifestyle

1
FOOD PARADISE, SINGAPORE LIFESTYLE
2
You shouldn't diet in Singapore. Eating is
reported to be the biggest pastime of
Singaporeans. Singaporeans live to eat, and while
you are here, you might also join them!
3
Singaporeans love to Eat, and their preoccupation
with issues means that finding great food here -
at the right price - presents no problems. The
wide range of meals available in Singapore is
simply astounding and staggering! There are
places to suit tastes and all budgets, which
range from the favorite hawker centers and coffee
shops to modern restaurants.
4
Few places on the planet can provide diverse,
exotic and thoroughly appealing a food scene as
Singapore. The city has every conceivable
cuisine, for every budget.
5
Within a couple of hundred yards, there might be
a hawker stall selling 4 Indian, Peranakan,
Chinese and Malay food specialties, a food court
with Japanese, Korean and Thai cuisine stalls, a
coffee shop serving up barbecued fish and laksa,
an Indian shop house which makes wafer thin "roti
prata" and "chicken curry", along with also an
air-conditioned French restaurant where a bottle
of Wine prices more than a maid's yearly wage.
6
And that's not counting snacks and the tidbits.
Regardless of what Singapore is often touted as
"The Food Paradise"!
7
After all, Singapore is a multi-racial and
multi-cultural society. As a multi-ethnic
country, Singaporean food comprises a multitude
of cuisines which can be broadly categorized
according to the main cultures present here.
8
It is n?t sur?r?s?ng th?r?f?r? th?t th? f?v?ur?t?
l???l f??d ??m?r?s? th? m?lt?ng ?ots of the
richness, tastes and peculiarities of each unique
culture. Singapore is a cornucopia of different
cuisines and the variety of dishes available is
enough to keep one eating all the time. Wheth?r
??u f?n?? h?ut? ?u?s?n?, ?thn?? f??ds, v?g?t?r??n
or spicy local dishes, you are sure to find many
great food choices.
9
As a large proportion of Singap?r?'s ???ul?t??n
?s ?h?n?s?, ?t ?s n?t sur?r?s?ng th?t ?h?n?s?
?u?s?n? (?n ?ts m?n? v?r??t??s) dominates, but
the main restaurants include Indian cuisine and
Malay cuisine.
10
As a significant crossroad in Asia, Singapore's
food culture has evolved as waves of migrants
moved, settled and adapted to their new
environment.
11
Without distinguishing produce of its own, local
kinds of homeland staples are slower to develop,
but some dishes can truly be called Singaporean
chili crab, fish head curry and "yu sheng"
(Chinese raw fish salad) are three prominent
examples.
12
The huge variety of cuisines marks Singapore as a
truly international city. Everything is
available, from the familiar Thai cuisine,
Japanese cuisine, Korean cuisine, Italian
cuisine, Mexican cuisine, French cuisine and
Middle Eastern cuisine to the more unusual
African cuisine or Russian cuisine. Some cuisines
have their epicenters, like the Golden Mile Food
Centre for Thai cuisine, or the Arab Street area
for Middle Eastern cuisine.
13
From the Colonial District and the Quays,
restaurants that are expensive hold sway and here
you'll find the greatest concentration of food
that is worldwide. Eastern Singapore is known for
its seafood and its Peranakan cuisine.
14
Everywhere, from the city to the heartlands,
you'll find hawker centers, food courts and
coffee shops, where the vast majority of ordinary
Singaporeans spend an extraordinary amount of
their time.
15
Whether you hunt down the hawker food or prefer
turning your charge card in fancy restaurants,
should leave Singapore puffing your cheeks and
rubbing a belly, you have missed out!
16
It's hard to know whether this multitude inspired
Singapore's food obsession, or whether the
obsession inspired the multitude. Either way,
Singaporeans are obsessed with eating. They think
nothing of driving a renowned Sambal Stingray,
and they will gladly queue for an hour to get
their hands on it, whenever a new food fad hits
the city.
17
Food is a significant subject of disagreement and
discussion everybody has an opinion on what is
the very best this and where to get the best.
Perhaps it is a replacement for politics (just
kidding!) - but if you had this food on your
doorstep, you be serious about it as well.
18
For Singaporeans, what's on the plate is far more
important than the quality of the china (or
plastic, for that matter). The smartest-dressed
businessman is as comfortable sitting back on a
cheap plastic chair at a plastic table wading
into a S3 plastic plate of "char kway teow"
because he's eating S50 crabs in an
air-conditioned restaurant.

It's not all superlatives, however. You won't
have any trouble locating one if your taste buds
have been surgically removed. Taste.sg Market of
