What You Need To Know About The Green Bin
Program In Ottawa
  • Capital Junk Inc.

2
  • The City of Ottawa is serious about organic
recycling. That is why they established the Green
Bin program for their organic recycling campaign.
Through the Green Bin program, the city is able
to divert residential organic waste away from the
    landfill.
  • The City of Ottawa is serious about organic
recycling and they consider it as an important
part of their long-term waste strategy. In fact,
they have established the Green Bin program for
    their organic recycling campaign.

3
  • Through the Green Bin program, the city is able
to divert residential organic waste away from the
landfill. The organic material that the Ottawa
garbage collection pickup gathered will then be
brought into the Orgaworld Canadas indoor
composting facility. Orgaworld Canada will then
turn the organic material into compost which will
be used by the farmers in Eastern Ontario.
Orgaworld Canada will also be the one to market
and sell the finished product which is the
compost. The five percent of the total volume of
finished compost will go to the city.

  • According to the citys official website, around
45 percent of the total weight of the garbage
collected by the City of Ottawa garbage pickup
consists of compostable organic material. By
    diverting these compostable organic materials,
the residents can not just help save Earth, they
can as well help improve the farmers field in
Eastern Ontario and at the same time help the
city save millions of dollars for a new landfill
    site.

Where will you get the green bin?
  • All residential homes in the Ottawa area are
eligible and are encouraged to take part in this
remarkable green movement. The city will be
providing one green bin for each household.
  • For those households whose recycling bin was
missing, damaged or broken, the city will also
provide them with a replacement. They just have
to call 311 to get their replacement green bin.

    of 52 weeks per year.

13
  • Each residential area has a specific pick-up day
schedule. You can check with your local authority
to know the schedule of garbage collection in
    your area.
  • Each and every household is reminded to place
their recycling bin outside their residential
homes on or before seven in the morning during
their assigned pick-up day schedule. The lid of
the bin must be locked to prevent insects, pests,
