Introduction

  • It may not feel like it, but believe it or not,
spring is on the way. With 20th March marking the
astronomical start of spring, once the ground has
thawed, its time to give your car a spring
    clean.
  • Winter is testing for your vehicle, so these
handy tips will ensure the snow, grit, salt and
ice are banished in readiness for the coming
    warmer months.

4
Spring Clean
5
  • Give your vehicle a thorough spring clean to get
rid of the elements of winter that harm not only
the exterior of your car but also the interior.

Grit, salt and grime can be transferred from your
footwear and clothing to your vehicles carpets
and seats so make sure your interior is dry and
give everything a good vac.
6
  • During the winter months, it is advisable to wash
the exterior of your car regularly to remove the
harmful elements but once winter is behind us,
consider taking your vehicle to a car wash to
ensure the undercarriage is also spotless.

If youre struggling for time, there are plenty
of valeting services that will give your car the
spring clean it deserves.
7
Tyres
8
  • Its not only the bodywork and interior that take
a battering during winter, your tyres have been
working extra hard to keep you on the road.
Freezing temperatures can alter your tyre
pressures, a knock-on effect is how your vehicle
handles so its worth making sure your pressures
are correct. You can find your cars recommended
tyre pressures in the vehicles handbook, inside
the fuel filler cap or on the drivers door sill.

9
Wiper blades
10
  • After months of snow, ice and driving rain your
wiper blades may be left a little worse for wear.
To avoid any damage to your windscreen and to
    help

you see more clearly the road ahead, give them a
quick clean. If you find visibility is still poor
after a clean, your wipers may be cracked or
damaged so its time to replace them.
11
Washer fluid
12
  • Dirty roads mean we feel like were forever
topping up our cars washer fluid during winter
but its a job that may not cross our minds so
often during spring. Make sure youre not caught
    out by an empty

reservoir by topping up regularly and, to be on
the safe side, keep a container with a water and
washer fluid mixture in your car at all times.
13
Air Filter
14
  • If youre an allergy sufferer, pollen is a big
negative of spring, but did you know your cars
engine is also affected by these nasty spores
which is why its important to make sure your air
    filter is clean.

15
  • A dirty filter can cause serious, long-term
damage to your pistons and piston rings as the
additional stress, caused by an over saturated
filter, restricts the air flow through your
    engine.

16
Engine coolant
17
  • Spring in the UK isnt generally tropical
temperatures, but your engine coolant will need
checking to make sure the levels are correct. If
the coolant levels arent maintained, you run the
risk of an overheated engine which can be
    seriously expensive to fix.

18
Basic Maintenance
19
  • Making sure your vehicle is running at its best
throughout the year, no matter what the season,
    will prevent unnecessary and inconvenient
breakdowns. You dont have to be a qualified
mechanic to undertake some basic maintenance
which will help prolong the life of your car.
