Overview of The LEAN Manufacturing Principles
2
  • LEAN is a Management model that was designed for
automobile manufacturing plants, during the 70s.
The goal of LEAN is to develop a culture towards
a more efficient organization through changes in
business processes in order to increase the speed
of response by reducing waste, costs, iso 3001
    risk management and time.
  • At present, the most competitive companies in all
sectors of the industry use this management
system and its associated tools to be the best.
This optimization has a high impact when the LEAN
Manufacturing and 6 sigma systems are integrated.

Here are some of the LEAN Manufacturing
Principles
  • Specify the Value for the clients (eliminate
waste). We should not think for the clients. The
customer pays for the things that he thinks are
valuable and not for the things we think are
valuable. Value-added activities are those that
the customer is willing to pay for them. All
    others are waste (MUDA).
  • dentify the map of the value chain (VSM) for each
product / service. The sequence of activities
that allows responding to a customer need
represents a flow of value. By creating a map
of the value stream, it is possible to identify
those activities that do not add value, from the
clients point of view, in order to be able to
    eliminate them.

4
  • Favour the flow (without interruption). We must
achieve a continuous movement of the product /
service through the value stream. Therefore, we
have to reduce the delay times in the value flow
by removing the obstacles in the process.
  • Let clients pull production (PULL system). The
application of Flow and Pull generate a faster
and more accurate response with less effort and
less waste. It allows producing only what the
client requests and avoids the generation of an
    unnecessary stock.
