  • For many young people, college can be exciting
    yet stressful. Balancing school, work and a
    social life can be overwhelming, especially in a
    new environment. This can cause students to
    perform poorly, academically and socially. Stress
    and poor performance can make the college
    experience a less than happy or successful one.
    Fortunately, there are some tips that can help
    you successfully navigate the university
    experience and any obstacles that may come with
    it. Below are a few of these tips.

Ask for Help When Needed
  • Once again, university can be stressful and
    overwhelming. Thus, there may be times when
    youre unable to handle the workload or new
    environment on your own. Universities fortunately
    offer numerous resources that can provide this
    assistance. To find aid, consult your student
    advisor or visit the Student Success Centre.
    Either one of these services should adequately
    point you in the direction of other resources,
    including mental and physical health services,
    tutoring and writing services, financial aid,
    student support groups, helpful activities and
    more. Whatever the service needed, asking for
    help can prevent crashing and burning.

Be Proactive in the Learning Process
  • Most people dont realize that learning is an
    automatic process that can be helped by external
    actions. Performing external actions means taking
    an active role in your own learning process. To
    achieve this
  • Practice good time management by creating a
    schedule with milestones, deadlines and goals
  • Study often and never cram before an exam
  • Start major papers and projects as early as
    possible and complete them in manageable steps

    caffeine and sugar intake

    socially. Dont be afraid to attend parties,
    socialize with your roommate(s) and other new
    people, join clubs or participate in other
    student activities. You never know who might
    become a life-long friend or your next roommate,
